Hi ,
Can anyone give me any advise on how the pain will be ? My op is Saturday morning
It really seems to vary.
For me, I had no pain. As soon as I woke from surgery, I needed to pee and was walking to the bathroom (with a nurse at my side because of the anesthesia) Not sure about anyone else on this, but from the time I awoke until I left the next morning, I peed 7 times.
I took the pain injection 2x if I recall, just as a precaution, because I've had abdominal surgery in the past, and it was painful, so I was afraid due to my past experience.
I didn't get a room until midnight (came out of surgery around 1pm), and as soon as I got there, I started walking laps around the floor.
By the time I left the next morning I walked over a mile (it was posted on the wall how many laps equaled what)
I got a prescription for Tylenol with codeine, but never filled it. Never needed any pain pills.
Only issue I had was a few days later I had an allergic reaction to the glue they use to close the laparoscopy hole (I had 7 incisions, due to excessive scar tissue) I was told to take Benadryl, but hydrocortisone cream on the spots, and I tried not to scratch. I also peeled the glue off after a week and that relieved the issue.
One thing to beware of is hiccups, a lot of people get them because the surgery disrupts the diaphragm (or something like that). I would randomly hiccup, and it was a little painful, just hold your belly if you feel it coming.
I pray your surgery goes well and you're as pain-free as I was. Happy Thanksgiving

It's normal to be scared. Pain in not bad when it's managed the right way (I didn't take anything besides the day of surgery), but to make you feel better just talk to the nurse and your surgeon about it, tell them you are scared of the pain, they will be able to explain what they do about pain, what medication and when, you will feel better.
Best wishes for your surgery!

Sending good vibes your way. You can do this!!! Post op may not be super comfortable but they have medications for that. It is very normal to be scared. I was terrified (they actually gave me anti-anxiety meds before surgery) and it went great (-=
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
It's normal to feel anxious/nervous/scared/excited all at the same time. This is a life changing decision...for better overall health.
Sip, Sip, Sip and Walk, Walk, Walk
Sending All Good Thoughts and Prayers!

Hope things went well for you today. I'll be looking for your updates. My surgery is a couple of weeks away now and I'm still anxious about it, too.
Hang in there and everyone seems to say - walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip. Guess that's the magic of recovery.
