Red face Str8upDave's Gastic Sleeve Weight Loss Journey

    Hey y'all.

Dave here. I had almost 63 yrs old and have WLS on Sept 21st, 2016. I have to say, it's been an adventure. I never had problems before with my stomach or gut in general but I have experienced all kinds of problems since my surgery. Now I have to take Protonix for gastric reflux twice a day. I have been told that this should subside in a few months. I'm getting used to my extremely small stomach and eating tiny amounts of food. I have lost 35 lbs but it's mostly from living on protein shakes and drinking 64 oz of water daily. I have been very weak and tired but I think this is getting better and I'm looking forward to exercising. My joints no longer hurt and I no longer snore. I still have a long way to go and I'm glad to be onto the next phase of eating. It's interesting that my taste buds have completely changed. I love fruit now and it tastes sweet to me where I never ate it before because it didn't taste sweet. I am totally encouraged about the future and my further weight loss. I believe the lower GI upsets are getting better and my body is getting used to my new diet.I am learning to know when I've eaten enough. I will experiment and continue to visit support sites to glean any info I can.
    Reason: added more info

✨Welcome!✨Congratulations on your decision, and know your life is about to change for the better as reported in 99% of most cases. For me, the risks of surgery were much lower than if I had stayed on the same path.

If you haven't already watch Dr. Matthew Weiner YouTube channel for what to expect before/after surgery. I was already on mushy and soft food by 4weeks tho I preferred to stay on the protein shakes a bit longer because my stomach could not tolerate many things. Your doctor's dietary guidelines are just that, if you feel you aren't ready to move forward to the next stage don't, and it is the same if you feel you can add something that is not on the list, but do be careful the first 12 weeks because you are still healing and you do not want to cause any fatal or detrimental damage to your sleeved stomach.

This surgery has been the best decision I have ever made, it is by no means an easy way out, it is also NOT a ✨*Magic Wand*✨ that will make weight magically disappear. It takes mindful every day work to stay present and use our permanent tool to be better and healthier versions of our current selves.

Sending you the best of wishes!

You're going to lose a lot of weight. I started at 380 and have lost 170 pounds without even trying. No dieting, counting calories, or fat free sugar free for me. I only followed "tinmans" rule of thumb of eating what you want, when you want, and NEVER overeat. Good luck on your journey. Look for post by Tinman, He is full of knowledge.

    WELCOME to the sleeved side!

This is hands down the best decision I ever made for me and my health. I'm 64 years young and feeling younger every day.

The lower GI disturbances, tired feeling, odd taste buds...This will all pass and soon be a distant memory.

Best of luck as you continue your journey!

WELCOME and congratulations. You have not only extended your life but greatly improved it. We seem to forget that this is major surgery. Your body is in shock, it needs time to heal. Take your vitamins and extra biotin so you won't have as much hair loss. I lost 76 lbs. and no longer need reflux medication. Getting use to your new small stomach is not easy, remember, eating is physical, psychological and social. You will from time to time forget and eat the way you use to and pay the price. You will gain insight of the way your eating made you gain the weight. There's no cheating here, if you indulge you will pay with pain, but it's well worth it. Eventually you will adjust, after many episodes of overeating and feeling the pain. The psychological and social aspects will take longer to adjust to but the satisfaction you will gain from the physical and psychological gains will get you through. I will never enjoy eating the way I use to so I try to savor the few bites, however, the exhileration that came from the weight loss more than makes up for it. I always take food home from restaurants, which lasts me a few days. Once you start exercising you will get stronger, think positively and enjoy your new body.
