Wink 4 days post op VSG and I'm freaking out!

Maybe this sounds insane, but I'm worried because I'm having too easy of a time. I'm meeting my protein and water goals with no struggle. Im getting my pills down i can drink all of my shakes. Am i going to over eat because of this? Im drinking 8oz shakes but my "meals" aka yogurt and soup are both 4oz because I'm scared to go above. Everyone i know has struggled and I'm happy I'm not but it makes me feel abnormal, like I'm doing something wrong or something is wrong

I'm the same number of days out as you and I am not even close to fulfilling my protein or water intake. I just...can't. Physically cannot. I wish I were having an easier time of it.

However, I can swallow pills, I have not gotten sick to my stomach (yet) and my pain is now just general discomfort that gets better every day.

I dream a lot about getting to the soft food stage because this liquid stage is icky to me.

I think you're doing great! Everyone is different.

I had an easy time as well. The only problem I had was getting my water in (after the liquid phase). I can't drink plain water anymore. Before surgery I was drinking over 64oz. Now it has to have mio or crystal light or something sugerfree in it or I can stomach it. Once you move onto more substantial foods it will be a little more difficult to get everything in. I get my protein and water (mixed with something sugar free) but it takes all day.

Protein was no problem for me and although fluids were a struggle, I was reaching both goals by day 5. Be thankful for your easy recovery....I sure was!

First week post op I had same fears and anxiety. I was drinking protein and broths with no problem, tho yogurt or swallowing pills were not in my instructions, so I did not try those two things until later, yogurt day 12, small capsules/pills until recently (though my recommendation was to wait six months). I also had hunger pangs about day 3 post op. I found out my protein drinks had little to no fiber and that is why I was hungry. I started adding fiber and that helped me tremendously with satiety.

Restriction will hit you eventually. And you will know when it does.

My suggestion is for you to be on some type of schedule and measure and log everything you consume. Even if you feel you can drink or eat more, don't! Stay with in your post op recommendations in the beginning. Any changes you want to make check in with your nutritionist (NUT). It has helped in my own recuperation and journey.

Shirl, how do you go about adding fiber to your shakes? just fibrous veggie (like broccoli), or are you using some sort of supplement?

Although the question was not directed toward me, I add a tablespoon of acacia powder to each cup of coffee. This gives me 6 grams of soluble fiber per cup of coffee and it is tasteless.

I didn't struggle one bit doing everything I was told. After surgery I was able to drink the liquid requirement and get in all my protein, every day, no problem. I always wonder when people say they can't get their liquids in. I don't see how this would be possible when you can sip all day long, but hey, we're all different. Sounds like you are off to a great start! You are doing everything right, and no, you are not overeating.

For me this whole journey was easy. Seriously, I had not one problem. Never threw up. Just kept losing weight, enjoying every minute of it. Now I'm keeping it off. People say this is such hard work, but it wasn't for me.

    Good luck! You're doing great!

I'm with you. Even with the C. diff infection 6 weeks postop (from a dental procedure, not my VSG) and insanely painful gallstones, this has been the easiest weightloss program I've ever done. I guess having substantial and long lasting results kind of makes me biased, though.
