    Default Trauma and the Sleeve

Hey just reaching out to those who have been sleeved. I went out walking in the neighborhood, and we were getting ready to cross the street two cars collided. Sadly, I have seen several car collisions in that same intersection in the past, but my physical reaction was weird. Seems that I tighten my abdomen I felt an extreme burning sensation, I felt like vomiting which has never happened before. Then when we continued walking, a homeless guy approached us to ask for money, my partner was a bit stern and told they man no. The man started cursing at us, and my partner turned around and I felt that tighten and burning feeling again. The man told him he didn't have to be an asshole about, and I weirdly just shouted back neither do you. I don't know if I did to defuse the situation or what.

We just got home, but my blood pressure is raised. Not sure from walking or the two situations.

My question is has anyone experience something similar post op? How long before you felt OK?

I just out an email to my post surgery support nurse back in CA. Hopefully it's nothing.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I get that way in extreme, sudden scary things happen even before I was sleeved. Fear.
I took Tums for about 2 days and it got better...but it took a few days at the least .. it stuck w/ me for a while.

Let us know what your nurse says.

The adrenal medulla is a gland on top of the kidneys that controls your fight or flight response as well as things like emotional control. It does this in part (and simplified) by affecting the glucose in your liver. Since the sleeve directly affects / is affected by this process, I would think your response would be a normal, if elevated reaction.

I am far from a doctor though and not an expert by any stretch so keep us posted cause I'm curious now.

    Thank y'all's for responding.

Definitely a fight/flight response, but never had that type of reaction. After I thought about it I have had that burning sensation before, when I was moving a couple weeks ago I lifted a box of about 50lbs, of course I used my legs and all my strength and sure enough I had that burning sensation in my tummy. It reminded me that I had gastric sleeve not too long ago. It stopped me on my tracks I can tell you that. I'm starting to think it wasn't so much my tummy as it was the abdominal muscles that have been severed and healing. And the fact that I haven't done a sit up in some time. Only time will tell.

I was able to drink water and eat later without any complications so that was good news.

Nurse did write back, just said to take Tylenol if pain persists. I actually did take a Tylenol because I was developing a headache and it did help for that.

    Thank you again!

    Hugs!

I read somewhere that after surgery, not even the added stress of weight loss, that or hormones ate like being 9 months pregnant. Way out of control.

Yes. Totally. I have been looking up hormonal changes for post Bariatric Surgery patients as well.

These two articles I found have encouraged me to find a medical support team asap ( I just moved from CA to TX ). And just connected with a nutritionist who has a holistic approach (body, mind, soul) and she wants me to get blood work up regularly so we are on top of any deficiencies that might occur.
