Cholesterol

I am 7 months post op. I had my lab work done last week,and my cholesterol was 259! Normal is 100-200. Before surgery it was 189. My "bad" cholesterol was way up too.
I eat about 2 ounces of meat a day. No eggs,no milk. Low-fat cottage cheese. I am completely shocked. I see my surgeon next Thursday so will see what he says.
My B12 was high off the chart- I immediately stopped taking that vitamin. My other labs looked good- calcium,iron etc.
Anyone else have a jump in cholesterol?

I don't think you should stop taking the b12. Maybe take one every other day or half a one a day. The last thing you need is to be too low in b12. I don't believe too much b12 is going to hurt you. You will just pee it out through your urine.

I agree with taking B12 maybe every other day, Im high in it naturally and Ive been told there is nothing wrong with being too high.
Does high cholesteral run in your family?

B12 is a water-soluble vitamin. Therefore, whatever your body does not use will be excreted in your urine. You should continue to take the B12, but as others mentioned, perhaps decrease the frequency to a few times weekly instead of daily.

Contrary to popular notions, dietary animal fat from dairy, eggs and meat products DOES NOT raise your cholesterol. Simple carbohydrates are usually the culprit:

I had high cholesterol both before and after surgery, it runs in my family. I did go without my cholesterol meds for three months after surgery to see if it would go down, and it jumped back to my normal high. Back on meds.

But it's strange that yours was normal before surgery and not not. Hopefully your doctor can help.

Thank you for your responses. I will check with the nutritionist about the B12 supplement.
I eat very few carbs. About 700-800 calories a day,I don't count carbs at present,but I guess I will start. Doctor appt on Thursday.
