Default My "old" knees are acting up...

    I'm 58 yrs young & a former runner (VERY former...ran marathons in my 20s & 30s).
Post surgery I began my quest to start running again. I've started very slow,
with walking outside, weather permitting, doing Leslie Sansone's WATP DVDs, & step aerobics.ml
it's been too hot for me to start running outside. Anyhoo, my knees are feeling my history
if running & being overweight for 15 yrs.
I don't belong to a gym & I enjoy working out at home...it's my "me" time. I want to do
strength/resistance training; I really like Kelly Coffey-Meyer's DVDs. I find her
motivational & easy to follow. All my DVDs clise with stretching & cool down. Unfortunately, my knees are really bothering me,
& Walking up stairs is a bit painful.

Are there any at-home strength training exercise tips to alleviate my knee pain? I enjoy my workouts
but not when they hurt! 😳 TIA!!

I have very bad arthritis in both of my knees and swear by tart cherry extract! I take two 1200 mg pills daily for the past year and haven't even looked at nsaids (spelling?) or other remedies. The brand that I started with was Spring Valley, by Wal-Mart. My Wal-Mart discontinued them so I went in search of more and found a very comparable supplement in PipingRock, Ultra Tart Cherry- 1200mg. It'll possibly take up to two-weeks to see/feel a difference, but they do work wonders! Good luck to you in your search for something that works!!

Google "Myfitnesspal 4 moves for healthy knees." Actually there is quite a bit of information on that site. I can relate, I'm 58 and running again. I'm doing well, but if I do start to get knee pain I lay off the running a while. But now that I've lost all my weight my knees have been keeping up pretty well! I have finally started buying running shoes at real running stores, rather than Kohls, and that helps too. (Sucks to get old, doesn't it?)

Shocker comment coming here at you ... I'm walking so well, so fast, so often, so successfully that I'm actually thinking about starting to run again (at nearly 70 years old).

Seriously -- I don't know why I don't go ahead and jog / run. I've started listening to music when I walk, and I'm just getting faster and faster.

I never, ever dreamed I'd ever consider running again.

What in hell is going on!?!

I know this is an exercise machine, however, perhaps you can find a way to do this at home using a rubber band. However, it works magic on hurting knees.

    What you do:
Turn both feet towards each other and do several reps
Turn both feet outwards and several reps
Turn both feet forward and several reps

What it does is build the muscles on the outside of the knees and helps support the knee joints. It truly works and quickly. Also, get some arnica cream and rub on both sides prior to and after exercise. Hope this helps.

I've done many of marathons too and this was the trick that fix my knee problem.

Found this...you can do at home using rubber band as the alternative machine and explains more in dept about the knee joints. Best of luck to you.
