Miriamb ... there are almost as many post-op programs prescribed by surgeons as there are surgeons.

Some surgeons prescribe clear liquids for a week or even more. Others prescribe clear liquids for only a few days. Others prescribe just liquids of any kind (including protein shakes) from the get-go.

Heck, in the hospital I was given cream of wheat to eat the day after surgery.

You are best advised to follow YOUR surgeon's directions post-op.

    Consult: 235 lbs
My and doc's preop diet: 216 -19 lbs
    M1 postop 205 -30
    M2 193 -42
    M3 184 -51
    M4 174 -61
    M5 167 -68
    M6 162 -73
    M7 156 -79
    M8 151 -84
    M9 148 -87
    M10 146 -89
    M11 144 -91
    M12 143 -92

agree - and listen to ann... she is like one of the gurus on here and knows her stuff

i did the clear liquids... for the most part because you are healing from a major surgery. i was not in pain, and really didnt even need pain meds (and my wife would call me a wuss) - but your body sure as hell tells you when youre trying something you shouldnt be doing.

clear soups/broth was great afterwards. jello and for me popsicles saved the day. they really seemed to help me feel better as i was healing.

best decision i made was doing this - i am feeling much better than this time last year.
