Hi Kim, sorry to read about your reflux, hopefully it will only bother you temporarily and you can find a way to control it. I took prilosec twice a day (1 every 12 hours) for two months after my surgery and it really helped. I also recommend that you talk to your doctor's nutritionist to ask for ideas to minimize it. What helped me was to walk while I ate, yes, I know, it sounds weird, but it helped, or to eat while standing. Since you are only three days post-op there might still be some inflammation. Hope you feel better, congrats on getting your sleeve!
Welcome, Kim.
Many (most?) of us who've had VSG surgery have post-op been prescribed an antacid -- or a stronger antacid, if we were already on one pre-op.
I was on Ranitidine (40 mg. twice a day) pre-op. Post-op, my surgeon prescribed a once-a-day dose of a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) -- Protonix. (There are other PPIs, too.) He said it would not only reduce my reflux, but allow my stomach to heal more easily without so much acid irritating my already irritated, swollen little bitty tummy.
I was on the PPI for about 4 months. Then I gradually weaned myself off of it, and am now back on Ranitidine. It's still doing a good job.
Best wishes for recovery and long-term success.

Hi, I was told my doctor and nurses to suck on ice, sip on ice water, when my acid reflux starts and then slowly go back into drinking Gatorade, when it goes away. Oddly, it has worked for me each time. If it happens at night do the same thing. Also might want to sleep a bit elevated too. Another member suggested to me too, when I wok up choking from the acid reflux was to stop drinking or sipping ? hr or two before bed, which helped.
Best wishes. I am post op from 8/17
