The ONLY thing I would worry about when receiving a recommendation like this from a WLS surgeon would be whether the surgeon recommended bypass over sleeve because she/he had more experience doing bypass surgeries (and felt more confident about his abilities with that surgery) than doing sleeve surgeries.

Have you asked your surgeon(s) how many of each of the surgeries she/he has done? And the usual follow-up questions -- like how many complications with each (and what kind) they've seen with their patients?

If you haven't had those conversations yet I urge you to have them.

Very best to both of you!

Most surgeons seem to be focused on how "fast" you can lose the weight. I think that is why they recommend the bypass. In the long run, the sleeve is much safer in regards to long term complications. The weight will be lost either way but faster isn't always better.

To be honest, I didn't have time to read through everyone else's comments, but I did want to warn against the bypass. My good friend had it done, and although has not had 'surgical' problems, she suffers from constant depression, hungry bone syndrome (bones eat themselves b/c of lack of calcium) and massive vitamin deficiencies of every kind b/c the surgery is MALABSORPTIVE, she must have injections of vitamins and stays weeks at a time in the hospital to recoup b/c even though her diet is really fairly good, her body cannot absorb the vitamins it needs.
On top of it, she gained her weight back b/c of the medications she must take.
I have another friend that converted her Lapband to bypass, and is quite heavy, gained more, always hungry, and moody. She regrets and would have rather had sleeve.

PLEASE go with the Sleeve instead and take vitamins, even when you feel "good enough without it".

I am 13 months post op and have lost every week apart from one , I have never stalled at all and I'm still loosing but at a very slow rate and I have hit my target . So I would say that's a load of rubbish and it all depends on the surgeon and also remember everyone is different . Speaking to people that have either had the bypass or know someone who as had the bypass it seams to be the sleeve is the more successfull of the 2 but you also have to remember you are only being given a tool and not a quick fix . You will still have to work at it which ever on you decide on I personally chose the sleeve because I didn't want to re-root my insides and it just seamed the sensible choice . Take a look a my weight loss figures and that may help. Good luck in whichever you decide , one advice from me is don't always take everything you read on this forum as gospel because different surgeons will have different results , some people are negative in themselves so this will come across in their posts , some people have been planted by weight loan companies to make the surgery sound amazing plus everyone is different .

Weight at pre op - 266lbs
Weight day of surgery - 257lbs

    First target- 210lbs- Hit 29/10/2014
    Second Target - 179lbs-Hit 26/01/2015
    Third target- 166lbs-01/03/2015
    Final target - 147lbs- 28/06/2015
All done in a total of 10 months and 22 days a total loss of 119lbs and I'm still loosing
