    Default How do I know?

My surgery was Tuesday morning. I still have quite a bit of pain, but the last few hours it has gotten me. I think I have gas left to get out of tummy. I'm barrel bellied. I asked my hubby to get gas strips. I did have my first bm today I am taking stool softener. Thoughts anyone?

My surgery was Wednesday morning, same symptoms, but I've been drinking the fluids & today had some plain vanilla yogurt, made such a difference! Gas going away, had a BM & belly reducing. Yogurt is a wonderful thing.

If you can move, do it. Down the block, pace the room, hallway, whatever...I swear to you moving through the gas pain is much better than sitting down for it. The more you move the less gas there is. Gas sucks with the sleeve, no way around that, so use those Gas-X strips, drink some water, then walk till you want to stop. Chin up, take control, make hunger your B!

Belle, the gas pain can be horrible. It is important to walk as much as possible and we used gasp strips. For me the best remedy was walking and I a back massage. Take care and hang in there!

What kind of yogurt do you buy? I can't stand plain yogurt! Please tell me I can have some with fruit in it!

I was wondering if the gas strips really work since the gas isn't within the digestive system or stomach. The gas is within the abdominal cavity and used to move your organs out of the way. Just wondering.

I hope you've had a leak test. With me, I had a lot of difficulty with gas because it was actually air in my stomach from a leak. I still experienced pain from the surgery about a week later as well. Other people I knew who had the surgery were up exercising and not experiencing much pain at all. Ask your doc for an upper GI (swallow study/leak test) if the problems persist. Good luck. Ann

Walk walk walk! Don't just sit there. I know it is hard, because you are sore from the surgery, but it really helps the gasses. And it isn't just gas in your intestines, its in your abdominal cavity sometimes up in your shoulder. So walking really is the best method. A warming pad also helps. I didn't do the yogurt so I cant say, and yogurt usually gives me gas, so I didn't even think about it. Remember this is only temporary! And just barely a memory in this journey!

@Rayer, my medical team told me the gas x strips are completely useless with respect to surgical gas. As you point out, the gas from surgery is not in your digestive system. They said not to bother with them.
