Yep! I had a upper endoscopy done and it was super easy. They're just checking to see if everything is fine in your stomach. My surgeon and I found out that that I have a small hiatial hernia that he'll fix when he does my surgery so it's very helpful. You just fast after midnight and be sure to have a ride home. You get knocked out for the exam and are awake again within the hour. It doesn't even hurt so there's nothing to worry about
It is very common. My surgeon requires an upper GI series rather than endoscopy but some sort of look-see at the upper end of the digestive tract is very normal.
I had one as well. They ended up finding a hiatal hernia. That was the final piece that I needed to accomplish before submitting to insurance. It was submitted to insurance on a Monday and my insurance approved it on Wednesday. I figured the hiatal hernia pushed them to move quicker but I was 380lbs, with severe sleep apnea, high triglycerides, high BP, and diabetes.
Has anyone here been risked out of surgery due to the endoscopy?
I just had mine yesteday and I'm worried the results will risk me out.
I don't get heartburn or reflux, but here is what the initial report says. And I have to stop googling and just wait to hear from my doctor.
