    Default Protien

Do any of you use the unflavored protien powder to add to your drinks?? If so, what brand do you get.

Unflavored powder still has a taste that I did t think was very good when mixed with things like juice/crystal light/ water. But I added Unjury unflavored to every kind of broth and cream soup I could find during my full liquid and pureed stages. I also add it to casseroles, pancake batter, Greek yogurt, etc.

My dietician said protein breaks down at 120 degrees so you cannot cook with it or heat it. She said never put it in anything hot. Anyone have different info from their doctors?

Of course protein molecules change when heated. Have you ever cooked an egg? Grilled meat? Notice the difference between raw vs rare vs well done steak? But just because the molecules change, it does not change the nutritional value of the protein. The same goes for protein powders. what does your dietician expect you to do?....chomp on raw meat and drink eggs Rocky style?!

"Although heating a food product that contains protein causes several structural changes to the protein and the linkages between proteins, the nutritional value of the food does not change. According to Cornell University, when casein and whey (two types of protein found in dairy) are heated, no changes result in the digestibility or nutritional content of the protein than before it was heated."

So yes, you do have to be careful when using the unflavored protein in hot food and beverages or it will clump up just like when you add the egg to egg drop soup. But I found if I pre mix it with a little water and then add it to the soup at no more than 140 degrees, it works just fine. But even if it did clump, my body would absorb the protein just the same.

Thank you. I will double check with my dietician next week. Sure would be nice to add my protein to food rather than those shakes!
