Hi everyone! My name is Vicky, so glad I found this place. I'm looking forward to reading a lot here. I am 55 yrs old.
I've decided to get the sleeve done in Mexico self pay as to avoid the stress of qualifying etc. Havn't set a date or chosen a dr yet. I am leaning toward Dr Ramos Kelly. Hoping I can find a buddy to meet there as I will be going alone. Love reading all the info here. Hugs to all!

If it is going to take a while for surgery in Mexico, why not at least call your ins co and see what the requirements are? My husband is in the process and he only has to do a 3 mo supervised diet. He got started immediately once he started thinking about it.
Just think that money could be a vacation. ;-)
That's my two cents.
Oh. When I started my journey I wanted the surgery IMMEDIATELY! Because of a stupid thing I did it took 10 mos but it was worth the wait!!! I had no doubts about my doc and I knew I was going to a center of excellence -yale.
Whatever decision you make just remember this is a marathon not a sprint

I have medicare and ended up completely covered. I went to a lecture in Feb (this was the first time I thought about surgery) and had the surgery in April. I may be impulsive but this time I made the right decision

Welcome Vicky.... Before I set a date to be sleeved I did the same thing... lol.... kind of like a big decision hu?....well, I am schedule for June 9th, gee !! pretty soon !!...I will keep you posted of how it goes. Meanwhile keep reading it will help you to decide.

I agree, that sometimes its better to have a time period to reflect on what you are undertaking. Mine took 6 months to prepare my mind and my body so when surgery date finally arrived, I was confident I was prepared and everything went so smooth because of it! Welcome to the first step on your journey!!

The best thing you can do is research all the doctors and once you have made your decision go back and do more research. Do not just use forums to get your information use google, Bing and all the other search engines and look into Youtube. Talk to the different coordinators ask them questions. Get facts on your doctor then be happy with you who you choose.

I had to wait a year to come up with the money for Mexico. I did lots of research I even watched the surgery on u tub. I was so ready as soon as I had the money I scheduled surgery for 10 days later. My pre op diet was 5 days. Good luck

thanks everyone for kind and warm welcome. Forgive me if I don't reply correctly
I'm just learning how to navigate this site.
To answer some of the questions: I do have insurance not a good one tho. They will pay for the surgery. Requires 6 months
Dr supervised diet, psyc eval, nutrition etc same as most insurances. In my area there are two drs that my insurance lists.
But I don't like the hospitals they use. I've read bad reviews on the two hospitals and frankly I dont want the stress.
I asked my pcp to give me a referral many times. They contacted the ins. They wanted to send me to a diet cntr 45mins from where
I live and in a very bad area in my opinion. I called the ins they gave me the run around. I'm tired of the bs, it's time to take control.

I decided I wanted this surgery last July. At first I wanted the lapband then after searching I realized the sleeve was the perfect one for ME.
At that time I told my adult daughter, my two sisters and my brother what I was thinking. Every member of my family told me
not to do it. My older sister said she has at least three friends who regret it. I got discouraged but then bounced back.
They are all overweight but not like me, I don't think they understand.
About six months ago I noticed my neighbor lost a huge amount of wt.(113lbs +) she told me she the RNY BYPASS.
She told me go for it! I had enough of this weight so it was then I started researching more intently.

I'm determined and on a mission. But I also know that I'm the kind of person that if I don't get things done when
I'm so determined, I will get depressed and give it up completely. So I just get this done soon also due to other
Factors that won't allow me to take care of me after August.

I have money I have been saving and so I have enough to go get it done and the fact that I can control the time is
A great thing for me. I have three Drs that I'm interested in. I also need the hospital to be big and with a private room.
Also want a nice hotel that will have the things I need to eat. I most likely will have to go alone which depresses me but
Hope to find some surgery sisters or brothers.

I'm ok using the money for this. I've never take. Care of myself always others.
I need to start thinking of myself before it's too late. With my family history I know where I'm headed.. heart bypass.
Time to hit the brakes and prove to myself and everyone this is the right thing for me. I wish I would have gone
and done it last year but I wasn't ready.

So happy I found all of you here that understand and I'm so happy, excited, nervous etc but my journey has began! I am ready.
