    Default I need help!

I super disappointed with myself. I started my preop diet last Monday and did awesome ,losing 7 lbs and then last night I INDULGED!! I feel awful and hard to get back on track. My surgery is Thursday . Has anybody messed up half way through their preop diet and was able to pick back up and go through surgery just fine? I knew the weekend was going to be hard, but didn't think this hard! Sooo disappointed in myself right now!

I would look through some of the blogs, you can't possibly be the only one who has done this before surgery. Good luck to you and if you are in doubt I would call and talk to someone at your surgeon's office who are familiar with the surgery.

I know that you are not the first. I did not have this issue with my pre-op diet. I agree on the call your doctor to see if you need to be rescheduled or if you can go on with the surgery as long as you stick to the diet going forward.

I have not had my sleeve yet but I would guess that you will be fine. As others have said, just continue the diet. Good luck on your surgery.

It is not how many times you get knocked down but rather how many times you get back up that really count. If losing weight was easy none of us would have needed to go the surgery route. I was on the pre-op diet for five weeks. The key that kept me going was to focus on each day at a time and not to worry about the length of the pre-op diet. Good luck and feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Nothing to worry about cause the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver a bit so its easier to keep out of the way with their retractor tool while operating. In my case and along with others who went through my surgeon there was no pre-op diet required unless you are a patient thats over 350 lbs. Speaking for myself at 276 before surgery I had a " food funeral" splurging and eating all of my all time favorite unhealthier choice foods, such as fast food, pizza, buffalo wings, chinese and mexican, Italian food, potatoe chips and ice cream, all right up to two days before surgery date. A couple of others I know splurged too. So be rest assured I was not the first nor the last to do this and you may even here others pre-op have a food funeral cause I have seen a few posts in the past and will see it come up again in the future. So My surgery went well without a hitch and I am doing really well. 276 down to 230 in 7 weeks and do not care to revert to eating whats not good for me cause those foods are uninteresting to me now. No desire to crave that junk but totally enjoy small portion healthy food instead!

I have cheated since starting my pre-op diet 5 weeks ago and not because I craved the food but because my mind is racing with thoughts of "Never being able to eat the foods I love again". I may not even want to it's just anxiety. I've read that someone ate an entire pizza the night before surgery and came out just fine. You'll be okay good luck!

I only laughed seeing this because I thought, "you are not alone"! I found the pre op diet harder than I have done since the surgery :-) I really struggled to control my cravings and managed to slip in two bottles of wine and a pizza in the two weeks before my surgery. Surgery went fine and I've found it easy ever since. I can still have pizza but only a small amount and I hardly ever want it. And I happily have my wine still.

So, don't feel disappointed at all. In my opinion, having been through it, it's definitely something to do with the hardwiring of the brain which this surgery fixes (my surgeon already told me this and they're trying to find out why, but I can now vouch for their theory). I definitely feel like I had two brains - a pre-sleeve one which craved, over indulged and wanted any food "because I can", and a post-sleeve brain which is "normal". I can't eat big portions, obviously, but I could eat all day if I really wanted to. The difference now is that I simply don't want to. I get chocolate rarely, but bring it home and forget I bought it. I eat healthily 99% of the time as this is simply what I want. I honestly feel normal now, instead of going through daily mental torture on any "diet" previously.

So hang in there, ask us anything that comes up, don't beat yourself up at all, and enjoy the ride. It's quite a trip! I was scrawny until puberty, and I'm now roughly the weight I was when I was 13 (being now 40, this is great!). Best of luck, all the best for the day of surgery, and enjoy it. It really is life-changing! 😀

I did indeed enjoy an entire pizza the day before my surgery :-) I know it's hard to do, having been there myself, but forget about never being able to eat certain foods again. Roughly 12 weeks after surgery, you can have ALL of those foods again. Sure, in much smaller quantities, but you can still have them. Curries or pizzas last about three days now, instead of being wolfed down in an hour, but I still get all the satisfaction from the taste, and get to have it three times instead of once!

I know it all sounds too good to be true, which is why I kept on having "food funerals", but I got to my goal weight in just under 9 months, can eat anything I like, but simply want to eat healthily almost all the time..because my brain drives what I want, and this is what it wants. I haven't even exercised since last July! :-)
