    Question Blood sugar readings

I spent a week after my surgery on the clear liquid diet and taking my blood sugar readings they were in the 70s-80s. I'm now into my 2nd week of the 2nd phase of adding creamy strained soups, sf puddings into the diet as well as the 2 protein shakes and still trying for that goal of at least 64ounces of water in me. My blood sugar readings have been now in the morning between 100-110. Am I doing very something wrong? I have a bowl of sf jello made in the fridge that every so often I'll go take about 3 spoons of, should I stop that?

I'm not sure if some people don't run on the high side--this would be a good question for your doctor

Thanks. I was thinking about doing that and just thought maybe others might've had it happen to. My doctor is really fantastic , I'm just one of those ones that think I should not have so many what ifs.
    Thanks again

I was type 2 diabetic for 9 years (controlled with diet, exercise & metformin) before my VGS surgery. As of 2-3 days after my surgery, I have not needed any metformin. Per my Nephrologist (I have 1 kidney), I only need to take metformin if I get a blood sugar reading of 150 or above. I am now on pureed food (and sometimes normal food) and I still have not needed any metformin. I have even checked my blood sugar right after eating and it is well below 200...LOL so do not worry, you aren't doing anything wrong. Just keep checking your blood sugar as instructed.

Do you take insulin or oral meds?

I've been a Type 2 for over 20 years - I took mostly oral meds but was on insulin for the last 5 years prior to surgery because I was either in some stage of pregnancy or breastfeeding. Because of the potential issues with diabetes and pregnancy, I had extremely tight control.....A1C numbers between 4.7 and 4.9. When I had sleeve surgery, I had no insulin in the hospital and I left on the "use as needed" program.

The first month of surgery, my numbers were like yours, 70-90. As I slowly introduced more solid foods (even creamy soups), I had a bit more fluctuation. My average "highs" now run 120-140, with one or two incidents of 180-200. Your doc will set your program tailored to you, but I can tell you that my doc has not been worried about my 120-140 highs. Her thinking is that she would rather I have those higher numbers than risk having consistent lows. Basically, her plan for the time being (while I'm losing) is that as long as I stay under 160, I'm good, and we'll re-evaluate when I hit maintenance.

    Weight at 1st Doc's Appt: 290
Weight the Day of Surgery: 267

    Post-Sleeve Weight Loss YR 1:
    Month 1: 17 lb
    M 2: 12 lb
    M 3: 11 lb
    M 4: 9 lb
    M 5: 6 lb
    M 6: 7 lb
    M 7: 5 lb
    M 8: 6 lb
    M 9: 5 lb
    M 10: 4 lb
    M 11: 6 lb
    M 12: 6 lb

Total Weight Loss: 124 lb (101 lb post-sleeve)
