What's this stuff I spit up

I'm 5.5 months out and still get both the slimies and the foamies.

I had a few bouts of foamies even before surgery and one of my adult kids also spits up foam, and she's not had any surgery.

I'm curious, have any of you tried going on an anti-acid (like Omeprazole) for a few weeks to see if it resolves symptoms? I think I remember the #AskDrA show on youtube with Dr. Alvarez covering this, and if I am remembering correctly it's due to an acid imbalance/overproduction.

Yup! If I eat too fast or too much I get that foam as well. Almost like my body wants to throw up but instead I get that slimy foam crap. It comes out and then I feel better. It's gross though.

As I've said here countless time, most surgeons prescribe that kind of antacid (a PPI) post-op for 4-6 months. Most docs these days don't want us to be on PPIs forever. Some recent studies have found some troubling correlations with years of PPI use. But 4-6 months won't hurt anyone.

I have also seen some patients here worrying over-much about being on antacids. An antacid is NOT a bad drug to be on -- particularly if it's going to be a temporary usage.

There are bazillions of people (including me) who've been on an antacid (albeit an H-2 blocker, NOT a PPI) for decades. IMHO, no biggie.

Take your antacids, people!
