    Question Feeling sick

I am 3 weeks post op and I feel sick all the time. I am never hungry and when I do eat even cream of wheat or yogurt or a sugar free popsicle I feel sick, almost enough to through up. I am barely eating anything now so I have no energy and am tired all the time. Has anyone else had this issue. I am not getting in enough protein or calories and it is starting to worry me.

You need to follow-up with your surgeon. Perhaps an antacid or some nausea medication may help you. Keep us posted and feel better soon!

I had a follow up a week ago with my doctor and he gave me a few new meds but they are not helping much. I will be calling first thing Monday to see what I can do because this is not working for me. Is there anyone else with this issue out there?

Hi My surgery date was 9-17-11 and on 3rd and 4th days I had same effects you describe. My doctor had me start taking chewable dramamine and I was better the next day. I have had nausea return once and used the dramamine immediately and once again and was better in hours. Ask your doctor if this is an option for you. Well wishes for a speedy recovery!

I feel the exact same way. Being a single mother of 2 has made this journey so much harder. I cook for my kids all the time and I can't even taste it. I am starting to really regret this, but I do hope it will change. I have a friend who's had it done in January, and she lives a pretty normal life. I can't wait to be there. I don't want to stuff my face, I just want to be able not to have pain and eat regular food. Even if it's 2 bites, just be able to eat without pain. My surgery was done on the 13th and this has yet to be my LONGEST month ever!!

Girlfriend, that was me this morning. Your either getting dehydrated from not eating/drinking enough or you need a acid reducer. Your stomach is still producing enough acid for your larger stomach and too much acid can sometimes make you feel yucky and sometimes even a yucky hunger feeling (like your so hungry you feel sick). But on the other hand, you HAVE to eat and you MUST drink ALL-THE-TIME, drink! I discovered this morning that if I even try to skip ONE meal, I get dehydrated. I feel sick to my stomach, I get light-headed, very hot, and I feel like I'm gonna pass out. I can't stress the importance of getting in your food and drink. Dehydration will only cause more problems for you. Hope this helps.

Hey, I was told going in that the first month is hell. It is. I had to start the acid reduced, still taking it. Also, the nausea meds are a must. It's gonna take six months for your stomache to completely heal. "real" foods will take time. Don't rush it. I found that gatorade helped me the best. Ice cold from the freezer with ice formed in it was a dream. I know it has carbs in it but, it helped me get some energy and kept me from dehydrating. Good luck and be patient.

My doctor and his whole staff was fantastic. I totally agree the doctors there appear be better organized once I found my doctor I was on the schedule in three weeks. It was great! I was one of the ppl here suffering until I decided to get off the merry-go-round. My heart goes out to them.

I have the same thing. Going to doctor tomorrow. I HATE to eat. Can barely get out of bed because I don't get any calories in. What I do eat hurts and burns once it gets to my stomach. Then I am nauseated all over again. I will let you know what my doctor says. I think I might have gastritis. I take Nexium, but I think I need something more. Hope you get better soon. This too shall pass!
