Unhappy high b12 levels linked to serious medical condtions ???........

    Hi everyone ,

I was wondering if there was anyone else out there that has gotten a lab report saying high b12 levels??

I have been feeling really tired, weak wanting to sleep every chance I can and so I went to the dr and had her check my b12 , protein , iron everything and it been almost 11 months out and I got my results back saying that my b levels are to high

I take a 1000mcg sublingual with folic acid and b6 and then my opurity gastric sleeve vitamin has 350mcg as well is that too much??

I eat mostly organic veggies and a protein together I know veggies can contain a lot of b vitamins but I thought since my stomach couldn't absorb the same way that the diet wouldn't really be a factor.

So I did some research and its saying that even if you take a high dosage of b12 everyday its water soluble and it should show in my labs as high unless there was another medical condition going on like cell cancer or liver disease, kidney failure. So this got me worried about possible cancer.... I know its not any of the other things because lab came back good and I do ultrasound and have scanned every part of myself.

So to keep myself from worrying I was wanting to know if there is anyone else out there that has gotten high b levels back on their blood work and it was just a simple cut back on the b12.

any input would make me feel better.

my doctor did seem worried until I told her that one of the downfalls from gastric sleeve was low absorption of b12 and it had to be taken sublingually so she is going to do further research and get back to me . this is my normal Primary doctor I had the surgery done in Mexico and they aren't really much help .

    thanks for the input !

My B12 level is too high to be measured. My primary wasn't concerned as B12 is water soluble and what the body doesn't need will be flushed out through the kidneys. The nurse practitioner at my surgical center told me to cut back to every other day with the sub-lingual as I was "just wasting money."
I still take it every day as I have a hard time remembering if it the day to take it or not.

I got blood work done recently and my B12 levels were also a little high! I plan to ask my Doctor about that next week when I have my next appointment. I'm sure it will all work out. Good Luck!

My surgeon only has you take B12 once or twice a week. My levels have been right on track.

My b12 was also high at my 6 month checkup and they told me to stop taking it. I was taking 1000 sublingual daily. I just had my blood drawn for my 1 year check up and I am still waiting for those results.

I have never heard of anything negative about high levels, other than it's a waste of money to keep taking it.

Mine was high as well. I had been taking a sublingual tab of 1000mcg a day, I think at the beginning I had ordered one half that dosage online. Went to 1000mcg because that's all I could find in the store.

My doctor didn't think it was a dangerous level though. I have started taking it every other day now instead of daily.

I went to my 6 month checkup yesterday. My B12 is high as well. My doctor is one of the primary bariatric surgeons at the Cleveland Clinic. He told me that it is NOT dangerous unless you know of some other major problem you are having. He advised me to take the B12 every other day - not daily like I have been. He said you basically pee out the vitamins so there is usually no big problem. He wasn't concerned and my B12 showed 1179 and I was told that normal is 221 - 700. He said definitely not to worry. Hope this sets your mind at ease = though each person is different.

I might add that I had bi-lateral kidney cancer 10 years ago and only have 1/2 kidney (removed 1/2 and full on other side). Even with these limitations, there wasn't a concern for kidney problems.

    Hugs,
    Kathy
