    Unhappy Hugrey

I am one week post op today. I feel hungry almost all of the time. I did not expect this. I know some of it must be in my head, but it feels just like the old hunger did, a growl in my stomach and an almost desperate feeling for food. It is only lightly satiated by the broths, Popsicles, ect.. Anyone else feel this way?

I had that too for a while after surgery. I mistook it for hunger as well, when in reality, I think it was acids brewing around, making my tummy have a similar sensation. I know this because now (5 weeks out), I don't experience real hunger. I have an empty feeling in the morning, but not a rumbling growling stomach like before. If you can, take an acid reducer for a bit of time until you get more healed. I was able to stop taking mine recently, and am feeling pretty good.
    Best to you!

sammie, thinking back - i was mad that i couldn't have certain foods, i was hungry and at one point felt like i just ruined my life i would not be able to enjoy all the good foods everyone else was eating. I did notice that when i was so hungry, that i was able to drink more liquid, you have to change your mind set- don't fret to much about food, you will be able to have all the food you want but you will find down the road, once you train your brain that you don't need as much as you think you do. lol if that makes any sense. Example... i went out to dinner with my husband a few times, and i ordered what my brain said i wanted... laughs- i got it and could only eat like 2 or 3 bites, i did this several times until i learned that, well- i cant fit all that food i think i want, it was just me being rebellious i guess that i wanted it! I sometimes think we "test" ourselves to see if we can get away with eating something that we shouldnt- and after you have it you think, meh- it really didnt please you as much as you thought it would- i really find that i enjoy healthy food over crap food so much more now.. it just took some time for me to get my mind around the idea! Your going to be fine- but if you find your struggling, call your doctor - i have a nutritionist in my office that i was able to speak to if i needed to anytime.. maybe you have someone u can call as well about it.

Your head has not yet caught up with your new tummy.
Stay strictly with your doctors food plan. This will pass.
Learning to correctly identify 'hunger' takes time.
