I'm supposed to be on full liquids for weeks 2 and 3. Did your doc say to move on after a week?

When I was on soft foods, here is what I ate: cottage cheese, string cheese (or any kind of cheese), scrambled or boiled egg with cheese, fat free pudding - yes chocolate! I also ate mashed potatoes and jello and any kind of soft cooked vegetables. In my protein shakes, I put banana or cantalope in it with fat free milk. I can tell you that the first day I cold have soft food, I had scrambled egg with cheese and it tasted so good!!! I still remember how wonderful that tasted. I am about 11 wks post op. I eat everything now in moderation, of course. When I go out to eat, I do order healthy, but always bring home enough for one or two more meals. Isn't it great?? Remember to only eat about 1/2 cup at a time and eat slowly. After you are healed, you will be able to hold more than 1/2 cup. Hope this helps!

When I get to soft food, I am planning on taking canned soup and putting it in the food processor with some chicken flavored protein powder. Also making some soups out of pureed veggies and turkey meat. Always adding an additional boost of protein powder.

I'm eating fat free creamy chicken soup, cream of wheat, yogurt, sugarfree pudding. i pureed some fat free creamy potato soup today. I'm barely getting 500 calories in. I've added my protein shakes back in.

    Good evening Splendaa,

I get really confused on some of the way and the speed that these people are going on the diets as well as you. I am only 4 weeks out this Thursday, I am to be on full liquids until the end of September then into the Puree stage. I am doing very well adding new foods into my diet everyday all though I take it very easy, slow and very small bites. I am not even scheduled to start soft foods until the end of September. I've done very good losing about 1lb a day. And I'm very pleased with that. I've begun my walking and am up to 2.5 miles every other day and toning with weights on the off days. I just don't understand how these folks are advancing so soon. I guess each Dr. has his/her own dieting methods. You continue to do well with your diet and you will do great with you surgery. I look forward to hearing from you. Only ten more days. That's so exciting. I am so glad I had it done. No regrets here.

Yes - every doctor is a little different. You go through a lot choosing your doctor, making sure its someone you feel comfortable with and trust. So whatever they recommend is what you should stick with. THere are reasons some drs might have different requirements - some use staples alone, some use staples plus sutures, etc. and the healing times might be a little different for those, so they might want you on liquids longer... or just from their own experience they believe patients can shorten up certain stages, etc. THey have their reasons, and you trusted them enough to let them cut into you and remove a vital organ, so dont question it too much - just do what they say and ignore the schedules of everyone else. We all go through the same stages though at some point, so we can hopefully share ideas on what to eat when we are in each stage!

Joycelyn34: Geez, you are full after 2-3 bites? To me, that does not sound normal. You should be able to eat at least 1/2 - 3/4 cup of food slowly in one sitting. Remember, your stomach is supposed to be the size and shape of a medium size banana. I would ask a medical professional. You have to get your protein in or you are going to have big problems. I am getting around 50 grams or protein a day on average over a week. Are you drinking your protein shakes? I go back to the dietician and nurse practioner this afternoon for my 12 wk post op check. They are going to weigh me, take my measurements, talk about what I have been eating and discuss my full blood panel test that was done last week. I cant wait to see what they say.

Cream of wheat was one of my first foods to try once I was off liquids, and I loved it. I had the brown sugar one and it was some of the best stuff ever! If I wasn't trying to down a protein shake every morning I'd still be eating it.

I love Cream of Wheat (esp brown sugar and cinn) but have been scared to try it because of the carbs... maybe will try small serving with added protein or something after I get to my goal...

Go ahead and have the cream of wheat girl! We eat so little, it won't matter. If you deny yourself every food you want, you will not be happy. If I want something for more than 2 days, I go ahead and have it in a small amount. It's worked for me and I am losing weight at an above average rate, my nurse practitioner told me last week.
