    Default Pre-op diet

Hey everyone! I am new to this. But I am scheduled to get sleeved on Nov 21 2013, only 11 days away!! I just got put on the pre-op diet, which is 4 protein shakes a day and all the 10 calorie or less beverages that I want. Basically my diet has consisted of 3-4 Atkins advantage protein shakes and water all day. I am going crazy!! How did other people pre-op diet go? I have to loose 7 pounds by surgery day but I am longing for some flavor other than that nasty protein shake!! Did anyone else eat anything other than the protein shakes pre-op? Can I have some low-cal soup or something? It's not that I am hungry, I just want some flavor! Thanks!

10 calorie or less beverages: SF jello, beef/chicken/vegetable broth, SF popsicles, low-cal G2, Propel Zero, MIO, vitamin water. I am sure there are other things that I didn't mention. Maybe a Diet juice (not sure on the calories because I don't have one here to look at.) You can also add extracts or SF syrups to your shakes. I have a delicious DaVinci SF Kahlua that is really good added into my vanilla protein drinks.

Keep your eye on the prize, and remember why you are doing this. Remember, it's not forever!

I never thought about adding things to add some more flavor!! I will have to try that!! Thank you!! I just miss eating something substantial and solid!! Ugh!! But I guess that's the point of a LIQUID diet! It will all be worth it in the end!

Another question that I have is, what if I slip up? Does anyone know what the purpose of the pre-op diet is other than to loose weight? I am only on my first day, but what if I give in and grab a bag of chips or something? I have horrible will power, so I am nervous I will not be able to turn down EVERYTHING that looks good!!

The pre-op diet is to shrink your liver so that the surgery is safer. Surgeons can tell if you didn't do the diet but I don't think one thing will mess it up but it could make it harder on you. Once your body adjusts to the low carb diet (basically Atkins) you will stop craving the carbs and sweets. I was amazed that by the 3rd day I wasn't even that hungry. I was tired but not that hungry. I also bought some shake/puddings at Bariatric Choice [URL="http://www.bariatricchoice.com/wonderslim-shakes-drinks-153.html"] and they were really good and if you mixed it with less water/milk it makes a pudding consistency that made me feel like I was eating something. One warning, I think the pudding shakes added to my constipation. If you have that problem I would suggest some Miralax. I tried benefiber and it didn't help. One last suggestion, on my pre-op diet I used the Atkins and Slimfast shakes, unjury vanilla and plain powders and Syntax mixes. After surgery I couldn't tolerate any of them. So don't buy in bulk, what you like after surgery will probably be different that what you like now.
