    Default Stomach Acid: Help!

So, I'm ten days post-surgery, and though I am heartily sick of cottage cheese and yogurt (which I hate anyway), I am sticking to the plan. The biggest problem is that I have terrible stomach acid/heartburn all the time. I take the prescribed Pepcid, but I'm only allowed to take it twice a day. Has anyone had this problem and what did you do to make it go away?

When you have a flare up chew up a couple of papaya enzyme tablets. I have found them to be very soothing. They are right in with the vitamins at WalMart.

I'm about 12 days out and have had mild heartburn. The prescription stuff seems to work well enough for me. Have you tried milk? I found that cottage cheese hurt my stomach and I loved loved loved it before.

I had to go on Prilosec/Omeprazole. It works very well. It takes 24 hours to kick in but if you take it every 24 hours it keeps the acid reflux pretty much at bay. Get some Tums to hold you over until the first 24 hours kicks in.

Ginger tea worked for me along wit Omeprazole daily -- yes, every day still. It is a small price to pay for comfort.

Change your acid reducer. You might need a different one that will help you better.

I was on a PPI rather than an acid neutraliser. Called something different here in the UK, but equivalent to Omeprazole. I needed it for about 4-5 months and been off it since then.

I have had a bad time with acid and reflux and twice aspirated into my lungs....while on prescription Prilosec. My doctor then changed me to Protonix...which helps....some. THEN I figured it out. The timing of your calcium pills and vitamins makes a huge difference. NEVER take your multivitamin on an empty stomach...the vitamin C in it is killer on your stomach and ALWAYS take your Calcium on a relatively empty stomach. Since I have started taking my calcium a couple of hours after dinner and right before bed in the evening and then again first thing in the morning before breakfast, I have seen a dramatic improvement on my heartburn and acid. I also switched to a liquid multivitamin...it helps alot. Good luck!!
