    Default Newbie

I had my surgery 5 days ago and I'm trying to get use to my new pouch. I have not been able to keep with the protein requirement because the protein shakes are not agreeing with me and I'm also have difficulty with the water requirement. Any suggestions

My doctor told me to do my best and that as swelling goes down, you are able to better meet the requirements. But if you have any nausea, you should def contact your Dr.'s office about that.

The first few days I just sipped 1oz every 15 minutes...all day long! Around day 6, I increased to 2oz every 15 minutes. 14 days later I can now drink 8oz in about 10 minutes. I didn't worry about protein shakes too much in the first few days. But, by day 5 I believe I was having about 20g of protein with shakes. I had the EAS protein drink in strawberry flavor. It was the only one I could tolerate. My protein drinks/shakes counted toward my fluid intake so I would alternate between water and the protein drink. I made sure that increased the amount of protein drink that I took in little by little every day. I started pureed food on day 8 so I got most of my protein from cheese and the shake. I make myself one 30g protein shake for breakfast (unjury unflavored protein scoop, vanillay soy milk or skim milk, about 5 small slices of banana, and one stevia packet) then every 3 hours I have 2oz of protein (string cheese, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and I will puree some chicken for dinner...ugh. It will be hard at first to get in all the protein but take it one day at a time and increase little by little. I've had a smooth recovery thus far and I really believe it's because I get in 56-64 oz of water and I eat my protein. Very little bits at a time.

Thank you for the replies. I going to definitely try the string cheese and see how that works. I had the gastric sleeve.
