wWhat does it mean when you have the worst heartburn in your life?

I have not been able to eat or drink anything with this pain! I've taken 80mg of Protonix and 6 tums with no relief. What does it mean?

How long post-op are you? Somewhere between my first and second week, I had the worst heartburn ever. It lasted for an evening and I thought I was going to die, I even started to think I might be having a heart attack. I finally drifted off to sleep and was totally exhausted and hurt the next day.

If it is anything more than a bad night, you really should go see the doctor ASAP.

I also took Protonix for heartburn and acid stomach (with no relief) My Dr. took me off Protonix and I now take Prilosec 2xday if needed but once a day really helps alot more than both of the protonix. Hope this helps....

I use Priolsec and have had good results. Early on, I would suffer these horrid bouts of heartburn in the middle of the night. I finally figured out that there was too much time between dinner and breakfast. As soon as I added a small snack (high protein) before going to bed, it went away.

Thank you! It turns out it's not acid it's bile. I have to have an upper GI on Tuesday. This stinks!!
