    Default My fitness pal/fitbit

For the past few weeks I started using My fitness pal. I like how easily it helps me to keep up with my calories. A friend of mine has been using a Fitbit and she loves it, she has been trying to talk me in to getting one. They are expensive and I'm not sure if I would like it. I'm curious to hear the opinions of what you guys think? If you have used both which would you recommend?

i have the cheap fitbit. santa claus brought it for me and since then i have walked 250 miles. i know because the fitbit tracks it and tells you when you hit milestones. because of my job - i can sit around all day at work.. and this will show me that i havent moved around much. i say that because i have found when i walk more i am feeling better. i like it and would suggest it for others. and fwiw - santa brought the wife one in pink so she can color coordinate with her outfits.. lol for me it comes down to another tool i can use to push me to exercise more.

the software that you install on your phone has many similar features as my fitness pal - but you can use them together.

    buy one

I have the Fitbit flex and it has changed my life. If you do get it, wear it for a few days and just see how much you do normally...I"m up to almost 15K steps a day and if I go to the gym I'm at about 22K steps. I love it.

I use both - I have a Fitbit Flex and it syncs with My Fitness Pal. I track my food on MFP, mostly to make sure I'm getting my protein in, and also to watch my sodium and fiber intake. The FF is mostly about motivation. I love seeing my step number at the end of the day, so I take the stairs, get up and walk more at work, park farther from the door at the mall, and all that.

The FF isn't perfect. If you talk with your hands a lot (hey, I'm Italian, it's probably genetic) it sometimes records that as movement. And when you push a shopping cart, or if you push a baby stroller, it doesn't always record those steps. I pushed a baby stroller for miles at Disney and the FF acted like I was sitting on the couch the whole day. BUT, those discrepancies don't bother me. I'm ok with a ballpark step number and it's consistent enough so that, when I make the effort to move more, I definitely see the change.

ok - since i got mad at this too - here is the way around it. before you push - select "track exercise" from the fitbit menu and click start. it will translate the distance traveled to steps.

be sure to turn off when driving... unless you really need the steps - lol

I have the Fitbit flex also and love it. It was a Christmas present that was worth it. I love that it tracks my steps and distance and my sleep. I love when it vibrates and flashes when I hit my step goal. It is very motivational and it does make you want to get up and move. Especially if your so close to your goal. I also use myfitnesspal and love that also. I just wish there was a button for having the sleeve n what not so that if I'm not getting what they recommend in calories it doesn't tell me I'm not eating enough. But otherwise I love the app and have logged in every day for almost a year now. Good luck on choosing a fitness/ step counter.

I use both the Fitbit (Force) and Myfitnesspal. I have been using them both for about a year. I love that they track together. When I'm doing an exercise like spin, I put the fitbit in my pocket to get the credit for the steps.

I've used both My Fitness Pal and Fitbit since before my VSG surgery. Both tools have been integral to my success. I'm 8 months post-op and am only 1 pound from goal.

I recommend them both very, very highly.

    Best wishes.

P.S. MFP is free. My Fitbit cost a little more than $100. Given their combined benefits, the cost is inconsequential!

I use Fitbit & MFP and find them invaluable. My favorite thing about MFP is using the app on my phone where I can use the bar code scanner to scan what I am eating and it logs it for me.

I have a hard time spending money on myself, so bought FB from QVC, they let you make 4 payments of $28. So it was a guilt free expense! I love it. I do challenges and it's completely motivating. My Fitbit user name is ms.charletta@gmail.com, if you get one, add me as a friend.

She thought she could......so she did!

    Yes, it does / can.

EDIT: Wait, I don't know if it can sync via cell phone. I interact with both MFP and FB on my laptop.

I do sync both the fitbit flex and MFP on my Iphone 6, my previous Iphone was a 4 and it did not have the ability to synch.

I use the bar code scanner all the time!

I used both too but grew tired of entering every bite into MFP after awhile. I continue with FitBit Flex however, it encourages movement and that makes it worth it for me.

I love my Fitbit and actually started using it's tracker when I decided it was time to track my food. I used My Fitness Pal in the past so I have used both of them. I suspect there is more food already entered into MFP since it's been around longer but I love being able to create meals on my Fitbit log so I don't have to push so many buttons when I eat certain foods repetitively.

If this keeps up, I will be upgrading so I can get one with a watch and as long as I'm doing it, I will probably get the one that measures your heartbeat.

One other thing I like about my Fitbit log is that I am able to customize my diet plan and enter whatever calories I want as my daily goal.

    Starting pre-op diet weight: 357
    Surgery date weight: 337
    Goal weight: 150
