gained weight first week after sleeve

On 6-10-2016 I had gastric sleeve surgery, I weighed 246 the day of surgery and now one week later I weigh 249. What the heck happened, why did I gain weight instead of losing it? I did 3 4-6 oz protein shakes a day and the rest of the time I was drinking water, what did I do wrong? I'm feeling so lost right now, any information would be greatly appreciated.

They loaded you full of IV fluids when you had surgery. Who knows how much you actually gained in water weight. It takes awhile to come back down. I weighed exactly the same as surgery day the first time In Weighed myself at 11 days postop. I probably weighed a lot more than surgery day on days 1-10. I didn't step on the scale again until I was 6 weeks out. If you are getting at least 60g protein and at least 64oz water every day, that's all you need to do at this point. I would recommend staying off the scale for at least 4-8 weeks. That way you won't freak out when you are in your 3 week still cause you won't even know it's happening.

Don't worry. It's just fluid from the IV in the hospital. You should not weigh yourself until AT LEAST two weeks out from the hospital. Just stick to your eating plan and schedule...the weight will fall off. I was sleeved on 5/31/16. Down 17 pounds since the hospital and 40 pounds overall. Don't stress!!

I did too! I nearly had a stroke when they made me get on the scale at the hospital! Like 282 when I came in at 275! So depressing, but it comes off really fast! Hang in there!!

How do you get the shakes in? And if you don't mind me asking, what kind of shakes are they? I am also new 6/9/16 and I just want to gag when I try and drink the shakes. I am using the same ones as the two week liquid diet and maybe that's it, I don't know but...

I used unflavored protein powder, sprinkled into and on everything!

I am using whey protein from the makers of muscletech, from Walmart. I love thin mint cookies and stuff like that so I use the triple chocolate powder with water and I add a drop or two of peppermint extract. It helps with the smell and the taste. I hope you find something that works for you, best of luck!

Yes thank you all. I am 6 days out had pcp appt and at surgery I was 308 at dr I was 309. I said omg I gained weight. I'm doing clear liquid diet how is this possible? So I will get off the panic train and ride the patience bus and see how it goes.

Chill don't expect magical weight loss in just a few weeks. Also your body is probably freaking out having just had a major surgery. My doc told me not to even worry about my weight for the first two months and just focus on getting my fluids and protein/vitamins.

The weight will come off, just do what your doc says.

It will get better. The veterans on here know what they are talking about. Take the wise advice of Bachi1230 like I did. I was nervous at first and decided to chill...and now 11 days out and 14 lbs lighter...it will happen for you too.You will be fine!
