Hello everyone! I have just returned from my 6 week check up with my nutritionist. I have lost 26 pounds and feel great. To everyone who is awaiting surgery - listen....this is all about creating new and better habits. We all have a life long relationship with food and for most of us it is no love affair. Did you know it takes 30 days to create a new habit (i.e. flossing your teeth, daily exercise etc.. you get the picture)? Since my 4 week visit I have lost 7.5 lbs!!!! But what have I learned? I learned that to prevent me from getting nauseous and belching...I need to eat less than what I am currently eating. And the key to all this is to eat smaller portions every 4-5 hours. Funny thing...I am now experiencing hunger at about that time. So I need to have available some protein (4 ounces) and some veggies that I like. Voila!!!! It is worth it to me because each lost pound brings me closer to my goal of achieveing good health. So 26 pounds since surgery; 36 if you count the 10 pounds I lost during my 2 week pre-op diet. To those considering and waiting for their surgery...don't worry it is worth it! Yes, even though you have to endure the pre-op diet. To those of us who are post-op keep up the good work....create good habits....join a gym, exercise with a friend, stay out of doors ( I am doing alot of gardening and will go to our town pool later!!!!) and in general keep busy. Do things that you like and pat yourselves on the back for taking back control of your lives by having this surgery. After the surgeon does his thing; the rest is up to you.
