gone from not sure to how fast?

Yippy I've made my mind up! YES I want to get sleeved! My file is being sent to the insurance today or Monday for approval. I don't have a surgery date and hoping this group can help me decide when to have it.

I have done 3 of the Komen 3Day breast cancer walks in the past (20 miles a day for 3 days - yes it can be done even over weight) and I've signed up to do another one August 23 - 25 in Minnesota which I am training for. For the sake of not dehydrating I thinking it would be best to wait till after the 3Day to have my surgery.

What do you think?

Thanks in advance for your help. Also I have enjoyed reading up on getting the sleeve on this forum.

Congrats on your decision. As for me, I didn't get to choose a date. After I had jumped through all the required hoops (insurance company and my bariatric center), they called me and gave me a date.

Congrats Kathy ..... You need to decide hat works best for you. A three day walk in the summer heat may not be optimal .... BUT .... If I it was me, I would have my sleeve (even if you have to miss the event) and run it next time

I have been walking 30 minutes a day - could probably do more in smaller segments of time.....Hey, I think that is pretty good for this old lady! I will never see 50 again.....

Kathy,

I was a self-pay and was able to choose my date. I am 21 days post-op right now and I can tell you this that I am able to walk 4mph for an hour without difficulty. I could walk further IF i was doing it for a cause. The hardest part is keeping up with fluids. IF you can walk with a canteen or a camel pack that would make it easier for you to achieve your walking goal. The camel pack is what the military uses to stay hydrated in the deseert and you wear it like a back pack. It has a drinking tube on your shoulder where it is easy for you to access for a sip.

I did the 3 day when I weighed about 240-250

It really triggered hunger though...lol

Oh absolutely! I feel like I could walk miles and miles but my feet, especially my right foot, won't let me. I have had two stress fractures in both my heels over the past two years and they have both healed but my right foot now has plantar fasciitis, an inflammed bursal sac, and Achilles tendinosis, and microtears in my Achilles. My Podiatrist wants me to have a procedure done called suture bridging but that's gonna require a very, very long recovery, 6 to 8 mos so all my docs agreed to try to go the WLS route first to see if that helps, but if not for the foot, oh, I could walk and walk and walk!

SethP - I used a camelback on the first 3Day I did.

The doctor's office said they would work with on the date. I was thinking if I start my 2 week pre-op diet Monday & if I get approval I could be ready for surgery the week of June 24. That would give me 2 months before the 3Day . . .
