Default Post Op Gas X Strips? - How Many?

    Hello,

My surgery is this coming Friday - (Yippee...(but nervous) - Many have said to take the Gas X strips with
me to the hospital. I was wondering how often did you use them? I have purchased them already so they
are ready to be packed in the bag.

    Thanks
    Karen

Congrats on your up coming surgery, I had mine on March 20th and have lost 34lbs so far I took my gas x but they made me naseous, my gas was better handled by walking as soon as surgery was done and keep walking it helped I did not take any more gas x it made me worst, but everyone is different. I am still walking on my treadmill 40 minutes every day to help with any gas issues and for exercise. Every week it gets better... good luck!

Make sure to clear using them with your doctor while hospitalized, I wasn't allowed to. They gave me stuff thru the IV line.

While at hospital my Doctor had Hyscyamine tabs every 4 hours for me. It helps relieve gas pains. Most hospitals want you to have a physician order for medications even ones you bring from home.

I went through two boxes. I used them more as a preventative measure.

Best wishes on your upcoming surgery!

I brought them with, took 1 and it hurt too much going down so I didn't use anymore. Walking worked a thousand times better anyways.

I did ask the head nurse - she said.. .."All I am going to say is the "rules" of the hospital is no outside medication....however GasX strips are recommended as something to use when you go home" So I will bring them with me - I will walk first and see how I feel - and if I feel ok..then I'll just go without them. I am not a huge pain meds kind of person...I don't want anything slowing done my GI Tract for constipation issues later...so I try to just handle it the best I can...but I surely can walk! Walked a few miles tonight. - Nurse said - get those lungs ready!

i never used any. ever. i did take beano prior to eating soft refried beans day six or so. it worked great. i had massive gas after surgery...but it was abdominal gas...nothing that i could pass, it was painful gas left over from the sugery in the abdominal cavity. I dealt with it by walking and shifting it as best i could until it absorbed, you can't pass that kind of gas

I took the strips that go under your tongue and I will tell you that they were a life saver. They really helped in conjunction with walking right after the surgery.
