    Default Help is this normal?

Well I had my surgery 2/5/2013 and have only lost 30 pounds. I feel like it should be more. I am exersizing 5 days a week for 30 mins. I only eat about 600 to 800 calories a day. What is going wrong. Went to my Dr last week he said I was a slow loser. Anyone else like me? thank you. Jo

I'm like you. Down 55 lbs in almost 4-months. My doc says part due to lower starting weight, part due to the way my body works. My PCP says 1-2 lbs/wk is really healthy weight loss and may prevent some sagging skin... That's okay for me! Keep up the good work and try not to worry too much about the scale!

How much do you have to lose? If its less, than its not unusual for it to come off a little slower. 30lbs is still a great accomplishment. If you've experienced a stall, that may make it seem slow. Try upping your calories a bit. Staying above 800 will keep your body from going into starvation mode. Getting enough water and protein is important for keeping the scale moving too. It's hard in the beginning because we wanna just see the weight all fall away and it's a very emotional time with the hormones being released while trying to relearn your body. Slow isn't necessarily a bad thing... It will give you the opportunity to work on tightening your skin as much as possible. Hang in there!

    Hi,

I was sleeved a week after youn on 2/12 My highest weight my inital weigh in was 231 I lost 10lbs pre op and that wasn't easy, lost another 31 since surgery. So a total since Nov of 41lbs. I am 51 (52 later this month) and never easy for me to lose weight. If I was lucky I'd lose 1-2 lbs a week on a strict diet and exercise routine. I know lots of folks are losing faster than us, and I too expected it to be a little quicker, but I'm thrilled with the loss as I would have never been to this point without the surgery as a tool. I just keep thinking that we've lost 15lbs per month which is awesome, so it I can lose 10lbs a month going forward I'll be happy. That means by end of June down another 20-30 lbs which will make me very happy. I think if we can just keep on keepin on it will come off. Remember we didn't put the weight on overnight, so we have to be patient on this journey. Continued success.

I had my surgery 2/26\13 and down 29 lbs. I lose then I gain. My husband had his sleeve the same day and is down 45 lbs. I can't eat very much and only get about 45grams of protein its very hard and emotional journey.

Yep, I echo what the others said. I lost about 45 lbs very quickly then it slowed down to a crawl. I was working out and logging my food for about 4 months before my surgery and had already lost about 15 lbs. Now, to try to speed things up again, I have started going to the gym more often and working out more intensely. I am aiming for 1-3lbs per week.

This is perfectly normal for some of us. I have been a slow loser and a frequent staller, but overall I am down 79 pounds and close to goal so I am thrilled. When I say frequent stalls, I am not kidding either. I had my 1st stall at 2 weeks post-op and it lasted for 2 weeks. It is completely normal for me to not lose for 2 weeks and now sometimes more at a time. It is not as stressful for me anymore since I am so close to goal, but I would at least like to be at my surgeons goal weight my my June 1 year post-op appt. Since I am only 3 pounds shy of that I am not worried. Even better would be to be at MY goal, which I am 10 pounds shy of.
Anyway, there are many of us "slow & steady winds the race" losers, so just keep on keeping on. Angela is correct about trying to keep your calories above 800 and getting your liquid and protein.

I was sleeved at the end of Feb. I am down 25 pounds. I feel as if it is slow also, but I am measuring and looking at fat loss also. I am down in waist size and body fat %. I had to increase from 1000 to 1200 calories a day after a one week stall on my wt. loss. Now I dropped 3 lbs pretty quickly after increasing my calories. I workout about 1.5 hours 4-5 times a week, depending on my work schedule.
Good luck. 30 lb is a great wt. loss. slow and steady.

Slow and steady is healthy ..and will benefit in the long run IMO...it will help with your skin sagging so it wont happen..and everything else...they always say 1-2lbs a week...just keep your spirits up...the bottom line is you are losing..and this surgery isnt a miracle ...its a TOOL..we need to utilize...so keep going strong...also..with all the working out...you might be gaining some muscle to...so that will change your weight...I tend to go by how my clothes fit and and I feel in general..then being a slave to the scale...have you tried measuring yourself..you might be losing more in inches then you realize....

You are doing great...dont forget that...there are lots of factors involved...but again..bottom line is you are losing...

I am just like you. Had my surgery the day before you and am down 40 lbs. Had lots of stalls, but regardless of what the scale reads, I have lost a lot of inches. Heck, I lost 24.5 inches over all when I measured at 6 weeks out. Make sure you are measuring, because it will make all the difference when the scale isn't changing. Wishing you all the best!!

im like you. i have lost 67 pounds since september. i am going on seven months now. but i did JUST see my surgeon and she said i am exactly where i should be, based on my starting weight and the fact i am female and over 40. slow loser...yes. but losing, thats the main thing! i am hopeful that on my one year anniversary i will have lost one hundred pounds, which is a big goal for me. i have five months to lose 33 pounds, TOTALLY doable. but even if i only hit the 80 pound mark at that point, i will be thrilled, and it may take me two years to hit my actual total loss. but honestly, i will deal with that, because without surgery, i would probably be 30 pounds heavier than i started by now.

    Pounds LOST since surgery 111
    Finally reached Onderland 3/1/2013
    Height 5'3" Small frame
Starting BMI day of surgery : 45.7 MORBIDLY OBESE CLASS 3
    BMI current 26.0 OVERWEIGHT

my first goal is to get to 141pounds, that will put me in the NORMAL range bmi. My second goal is 120, which is thin and healthy.
