    Default Slow weight Loss....getting frustrated

Monday will be 4 weeks post op and I feel that my weight loss is way slower than everyone elses. I read a posting about not letting the scale get to you, but easier said than done, especially if you are one that is loosing really fast. Since surgery, I have only lost 16 lbs with 4 weeks of liquids. I've gone 6 days with zero weight loss. I consume 80-100 grams of protein and drinking as much liquid as possible. This seems like typical weight loss for a person consuming approx 1000 calories not one consuming 700 or less. Anyone else experienced this in the first part of the journey?

your averaging 4 lbs a week, don't lose sight that kind of WL is AWESOME! everyone seems to hit the wall around week 3 or 4, then it starts falling off again. Let your body adjust to it's new tummy, the poor thing has been thru a lot!

sounds like you are doing pretty awesome.. keep in mind , that somebody that is 300 lbs may lose weight faster that somebody that started out at your weight. it all depends on the person really .. but 4 lbs a week / 12 lbs a month is a loss of 36 lbs in 3 months.. thats really good. from reading other people's posts you will have several days where you wont notice any loss.. stay off the scales for a while.. try using the measuring tape instead.. you may still be losing inches! good luck! dont get discouraged! you will do marvelous!

Don't get discouraged! From what I have read on this forum and other sites, your weight will not drop steadily, but in fits and starts. Just keep up the good work. It sounds like you are doing all the right things, so don't give up.
One question. Are you exercising? If you are, you may be putting on muscle mass as you lose fat. If you aren't, you should because it helps your metabolism.
Please don't let this get you down. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else and just compare yourself to that person you were before the surgery.

I lost 16 lbs in 2 weeks then nothing the next two. I ws frustrated too. I just started losing again, I thought it ws something I was doing wrong, but I think it ws just becasue I had lost almost 30 before the surgery and it was time for a stall. I did lose inches during that time. I will be glad if I can lose ten lbs a month from now on, if more then great but ten would give me a 120 this year. 70 by christmas! yay! now that I started losing again I am able to stay away from the scale, when I wasnt losing it was hard. actually impossible, I could not stop checking every morning. if you want somebody to check your nutritional intake, post it and it might help but I think you are doing fine. it adds up fast!

I was sleeved on the 18th April, I lost 17 lbs in the first two weeks and nothing since. I'm also finding it difficult to not to cheat, ie the odd biscuit, sweet, chocolate etc. I have never been very successful dieting which is why I had this surgery! I've decided not to weigh myself anymore and just take it day by day. I sincerely hope you have success in the future.

I had mys surgery on April 12 and I have only lost 20 pounds. Instead of worrying about not losing as quickly as you woul like, be thankful for what is gone already. I knew going in that for me this would be a slow journey-my body just wants to hold on to the weight. Just don't freak out, you will eventually lose the weight you want.

    Good luck!

Hiya Jackie - you are doing great on your weight loss! Like Cindy mentioned - if you're heavier the weight comes off a tad faster at the beginning. I hit my first plateau at 4 weeks also and I was freaked out for a bit - I wondered what I was doing wrong etc.. I had talked with my doctor and he said that your body will hold, then eventually release it. He just told me to keep going... my first plateau lasted for about 10-14 days and finally let go.

You are only 19 pds away from being a ONEderlander!! I'd pretty much give my right leg to be there now!! *lol* You are doing fantastic - did you say you were getting in 1000 calories per day or 700? My dietician wanted me at 1200 (i thought her nuts - cuz it felt like i couldn't even get in 700 I was always so full) but she kept reminding me that if i didn't eat alittle more that my body would pop into starvation mode and start hoarding the fat instead of releasing it. I did increase it some - maybe about 1,000 or alittle more and it did help. Just keep working your program - you are doing great!! Congrats on your surgery!

    Hugs and Blessings

You guys are all sooooo awesome and I sincerely appreciate all the nice words of encouragement. I definitely need to stay off the scale (sooo hard to do) and start excercising. That is the one thing I am not doing. I am feeling really good now, just need to step up the activity. I can't say enough as to how this forum has helped me get through all this. Thanks again everyone!!!!

Today is 31 days since my surgery and I have lost a total of 28 lbs. I actually lost about 9 pre-op and when I got on the scale a day and 1/2 after surgery I was up 2.5 lbs. I quickly went back down and this has been the slowest week at only losing 1.5 lbs., but with saying that, I'm still losing and not gaining! My pants are so loose and I can't wait to get into size 18s. Its only a matter of time for me. One week I was wearing size 22 and the next I could fit into size 20. I'm hoping within 2 weeks I'll be in size 18s................but if not I know I'm better off than I was 28 lbs. ago!!!

Are you getting any exercise? If you are taking in that much protein, and not getting in exercise, you will lose slowly. I too did not eat much the first year after my surgery, but did not exercise much either, which resulted in slow weight loss, and stand stills. I started going to curves gym 3-4 times a week in January, and have really seen much better results since. I had surgery on 8-17-09, and have lost 105 lbs. I feel that if I had gotten in more walking and exercise, I would be much closer to my goal now. I have 120 lbs. to go. good luck to you!
