    Default Amount of Solid Foods

I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and have felt great during the liquid and soft food phases.

Now that I am starting to incorporate some solid foods it has been really unpleasant. Almost with all types of food (fish, chicken, etc), after a couple of bites I start to feel bad but it is hard to describe. It's not really nausea but it is very unpleasant.

What was your experience 5 weeks out? Is this normal, could there be an obstruction and when does it start to feel "normal"?

    Thanks.

It will get better soon. I still have some difficulties, but its more so with apetite. I think that you may be eating a little to fast. Try taking a small bite and then waiting. You should actually feel it passing through. Once it gets down, then try to take another bite. At the stage your in, its common to only get in about 2 forks of something. This is where your protein shakes are still handy. Good Luck

It's very normal and will be with you for a while in my experience. Its almost when you want to put something in your mouth you are rejecting it before it even gets to your lips. You will find it will happen with different foods. Its almost like you dont want to go through the struggle of getting it down. Also the amount of time we have to spend chewing also creates a reaction that makes you want to stop eating. On the flip side, always have a friend near you when you go to olid foods. This way you just push the dish over! My wife hates it when I do it but now she understands and always ready to receive my leftovers.

    Thanks for the replies.

Today I tried something I read on here in another thread. After each bite of food I would wait about 1 or 1.5 minutes before each subsequent one and the experience was a lot better with much less discomfort.
