Hell no be elated. My Doc did not do it either. He says it only shrinks the liver and allows more room something he is skilled enough to get around. Besides you will have enough challenges adjusting to being sleeved and don't need to pre torture yourself.
I would however rub it in whenever others complain about their pro-op diet!!!

i would be. the reason for the pre op diet is to shrink your liver prior to surgery as they will be working in that area. i have not heard of anyone even having the other bariatric ( with the exception of the lap band) without a pre op diet. infact my hospital and insurance requires a nurtition class on this. where are you having it done etc. and what his reason for not having a pre op diet. you need to start one about 10 days prior to surgery and also be taking a multivitamin. get rid of all soda and carbonated beverages as those are not allowed on the pre op. no caffiene or ciggerets during pre or post op.
I wouldn't be concerned; I'd be happy!
But in all seriousness, it all depends on the surgeon. I have seen no pre-op diet all the way up to 28-day pre-op diets. I have seen people do them voluntarily and those who barely make it through and cheat a lot when they're assigned. I was personally ok with it, as it got me "mentally ready" for all the changes and the kick-start in weight-loss wasn't terrible either.
But if you choose not to do one, don't sweat it, you'll be losing soon enough!

LOL James is funny. I'll just copy and paste my ealier response from today to another concerned one. Re: Why post op diet and weight lose before VGS?
Most not all surgeons require a pre-op diet due to people having "fatty livers". The surgeons want to decrease as much fat around your organs to have the surgery go smoothly. A friend of mine had a gastric sleeve and duodonal switch in Brazil 7 years ago and didn't diet at all. She was just NPO prior to her surgery. I just did a modified pre-op diet as decreasing carbs, sugars, and no caffeine just to help me when I'm post-op. My sister and I were only required a three day clear liquid diet prior to surgery then NPO the night prior to surgery. For your other question about equipment, I have a great document, the Sleeve Bible that has a lot of information (26 pages). PM me with your email addy and I'll be happy to send it to you. Ditto.
dr. seems to know i guess.. i think 2 days before i'd use that fleet stuff to clean u out then use liquids for 2 days. i don't think u want stuff in your stomach while they are frying it lol.. and if there is stuff in your stomach it could come up when they stick the tube down your throat, thats what happen the day i had mine done to another woman then she got junk in her lungs and it was a mess.
I stopped drinking pop/soda 8 months ago, I'm on a low-carb/calorie diet, and I exercise 4-5 times a week. I don't eat large portions, I never have, I've just made poor choices and lack of exercise. Thanks for your comments, they are SO helpful! I feel much better now!

My doctor said that it wasn't necessary to be on pre op diet. He has me taking the 2 bottles go magnesium and a clear diet today, since surgery is tomorrow morning.
A doctor that I talked to said that the preop diet wasn't necessary and that having the extra fat around the liver wasn't a big deal. He also said that if I wanted to do it that it was fine and could only help but wasn't required. If i go with him, I will be required to do a liquid diet the day before surgery and not eat or drink anything after midnight. I said I was going to try herbal life and do two shakes and one low fat meal for 2 weeks prior to help myself get used to the shakes. I dont think I can do the surgery without the practice as I have no will power whatsoever
My surgery is on January 30th. I have been on pre-op diet since the 16th. Atkins shake and small bowl of fruit for breakfast. Shake and a salad with red wine vinegar for lunch. Apple/yogurt for snack. Fish, chicken, or turkey for dinner and salad/vegetable. I have been drinking about 100 oz of water via crystal light. Very similar to Atkins diet but no fat and small portion of lean meat.
