    Default Stalls, update please

Hi, so many of you have posted your feelings of failure and frustrations when you haven't lost weight. Lots of you around 5-10 weeks post surgery but when I follow your threads you haven't updated them so I don't know how you're doing now. I am 8 weeks post op and haven't lost in 5 weeks. Please please let me know how you are all doing now. Did the stall come to an end? did you have to change your diet etc? I really look forward to hearing from you

    Thanks a million

Hi! I really like to know this as well. I am 6 weeks out from surgery and have lost a little less than a pound in the last two weeks. Thanks!

Hiya Clarence and Teddy... I hit my first plateau at about 4 - 5 weeks post op. It lasted about 10 days, but to shake it up I tried to do different things. I really focused on getting in the protein I needed. Also, keep a journal and log the foods you are eating, so that you can show your dietician - who can then help you tweek it. Clarence.. it doesn't say how much you weigh - how much you shall lose depends on if you're like 180 and trying to lose the last 50 pds or higher up. When I asked my doctor about plateau's or stalls he said that the body will hold, then release the weight - that you just have to keep following the program.

Do you know how many calories you are getting per day? If it is too low, your body will believe it is in starvation mode and it will hoard the fat instead of releasing it. Go back to basics.. make sure you are following the plan, getting exercise. I have only hit the one plateau, but once I changed how much protein I was taking in.. it really started to move. To add extra protein I got the body fortress whey protein shot from walmart - one tube has 26 grms of protein. I take in on a empty stomach (without mixing it with anything) - I shant kid ya - they taste awful - but I drink about half and later on drink the other half (also on a empty stomach) I truly don't know if this is what has jump started my weight loss again, but it is the only thing I really changed.. so try it and let me know if you get any results! (lost 16 pds in the past 17 days) or 86 pds in 4 1/2 months.

I just know you can't get discouraged - just keep working the program - try changing something up - if you let me know what you eat on a daily basis maybe I or others can help you tweek it some. Also are you getting plenty of water or clear liquids - dehydration can also cause you not to lose weight. Hang in there! I wish you the very best - you can talk to me anytime - ask any questions you like - I will try to help you!

    Huggles and God Bless
    ~Bren~

I read somewhere on here about throwing away our scales--because in time, the weight will come off. If you are eating 1200 calories a day- or whatever your doctor told you to consume, then no worries. Slide the scale under the bed and be positive. This is ultimately a psychological war between our determination and our desires. OK, that was cheesy, but I think its true! We have to be positive with our 5 bites, and not angry because we can't eat the whole enchilada. I have seen others post about hanging on, the weight will fall off, so please do not worry and slide that scale!

I've seen many posts and posted myself about us worrying about stalls. We don't seem to get much of a response except it'll come off, your doing.fine and what are u eating. These are all valid but nobody ever seems to address the actual question, they just tell us how to do the diet. Raise your hand if you don't have five copies the diet. I'm wondering what is it that prompts so many of us to ask this same question. One thing for me was, I was good at two weeks, but after that fear takes over bc we have been conditioned from all the diets we have failed at and who hasn't given up after a stall last three weeks? What we want to know is did you (those with significant losses or even reached goal weight) have the same problem and did you just wait it out and the scale finally started moving again, or did you realize you were doing something wrong, or did anybody never lose anymore weight. (This is unlikely but is a common fear or we would not get that sick feeling when we go through it. If there is a thread on this with some more clear post please direct us bc I have searched and get the same thing again and again. Even on you tube type in stall and people only tell u they are having one, no real, idk, comfort? Maybe we want somebody to say I had a stall the first month, I did 90 percent correct and stayed under the carb limit, I thought it would NEVER end and I was losing my mind BUT THEN, it suddenly kicked back in and here I am today! Clothed (in a size 12) and in my right mind! Tadaa!! Forgive us for scale watching but I can weigh weekly when I'm losing, when the scale doesn't move, I cannot stop myself from checking daily. Do I look like I have will power? These were good comments but there are so few, but being so few makes us think, you never had this problem and its just us. And hey! I type most of all my posts in with my thumbs so I really want to know! So somebody lie to me, make me feel better!

Hi Bren, thanks so much for your reply. I will up my proteins and see what happens. Fingers crossed. By the way, I am 210lbs, aged 50 and had a gastric band for 13yrs. I had great success with the band but with all the problems that come with it. Had to be removed last year due to infection. Your doing really well yourself, well done you. Keep in touch and thanks again.

exactly right, but prob shouldn't weight yourself anymore than once a week & prob should only weight about 1 time a month, but it isn't our nature! We should all remember, it's a marathon not a sprint - we've taken our whole lives to get to this point, we can't take it all off in just 6 months.

I have always heard that you should weigh in once a week same time of day, etc. But my surgeon said the successful people weigh every day! So I do. I don't freak out if it doesn't move or even if it goes up a couple of pounds, because I know that everyone's weight fluctuates up and down daily. I only record my weight once a week. I am 13 weeks out and there has only been 2 weeks were the weight stayed the same. Doc also said the other 2 things done every day by successful weight losers is exercise and write EVERYTHING you eat in a journal. One thing I have noticed is when I don't journal everything every day, I won't lose weight. Not enough calories or protein, and I don't lose.
Don't give up hope. Good Luck!

I stalled for 3 1/2 weeks recently (surgery April 12). Then I lost 4 pounds in one week. I saw my doctor yesterday and she said that stalls usually occur because you are not eating enough. I have been eating about 400 calories a day and was told yesterday to go up to 1200 calories a day. I have been eating just protein (meat, tuna, eggs). I am off to the store to get some fruit. I'm going to try to up the calories gradually-not all in one day.

    Good luck to you.

I have had several stalls, I just up my proteins and my water intake. I found the Dannon strawberry greek yogurt...so that has really helped.

I am in a stall now. I went to a support group they said to up my protein and my excercise which I know both have been lacking. I downloaded some free calorie counter apps to my ipod and I plan to keep track of what I am eating and see where everything fits in. I also picked up some protein bars to have to help up my protein. I am hoping it will work.
