How long did you wait to go back to work? My surgeon says that I can go back to work immediately but can't drive for two weeks.
My surgeon recommends two to three weeks off.

I started my teaching year ten days after surgery. The first week was preplanning without kids. I could pace myself. I took a nap when I got home for about a month. That helped. My doc said I could drive as soon as I was off the strong pain meds. That was about a week after surgery.
My surgeon said a week if I had a desk job, which I don't, and otherwise 2-3, although he would write the fmla for up to a month if I wanted it. I had my surgery mid week, so took off for 2 1/2 so I could begin on a Monday. I am 11 days out and I probably could have gone back after 2 weeks, but am glad that I have a few extra days. Everyone is different, just take care of yourself and know that it is easier to go back earlier than you asked for, but harder to go back later.
Good luck!
I am scheduled for 3 weeks off, sitill have one more week. But honestly, I am thinking of extending it one more week. I'd like to wait until my first NUT appt on 11/15. Then I would plan on returning to work on 11/19 and only be there 3 days due to the Thanksgiving break. What do you all think? I am sure i could go back as originally scheduled but I really think I want more time off, mostly because I can. ;-)
I would take as long as your surgeon is willing to sign you off for and you would still get paid. Be kind to yourself. Give yourself time to relearn how to eat and drink and make plans for eating while at work.
I rented a car and drove an hour away to a casino 3 days after surgery, by day five, it was like I never had a surgery
