You voiced exactly what I felt and at times still do feel. I could eat what ever I wanted and lots of it before the surgery. It has been 8 months since my surgery and I have lost 80 pounds. My physical looks have changed, but the food beast inside just wants to be satisfied. Even now I have to listen to my stomach when it gives me the "don't eat" any more signal. Just around the time mark you indicated I understood that this new food intake plan is for life - and yes it depressed me very much. However, now there were scores of people watching me for what and how much I ate and how much weight might be coming off I stuck to the plan. It does get better as you begin to leave the initial foods behind and can add variety to your diet. Hey, I left the hospital weighing more than when I went in before the surgery - and that was discouraging. Now I have reached the no more weight loss in the last 4 weeks and I hav to push through this - it is a series of events to get through. I kind of try to look ahead, figuring this too will pass. You got through the surgery and as I look back over the last 8 months, the surgery and week right after it was the most brutal part of the process. Go ahead and feel hungry and frustrated here with us - we understand and also feel better when small battles have been won. Now I promise myself that I will enjoy the first 3-4 bites of food and then I have tasted it and can be finished. Enjoy.

I don't know if you meant you've hit the stop of your weight loss or not, but just fyi, I thought that too (I'm a year out this month), and about 3 weeks ago I just started losing. I didn't change my diet (and my diets not that good, I eat carbs, etc.) but I just started randomly losing a pound a day lol. So I said, I ain't dare changing what I'm eating, I might stop losing haha. I ended up losing almost 10 lbs. 140 to 132. So your body will continue to lose up to the first year. Especially if you are eating like you're supposed to, the sleeve will continue to do its job. You may not be done

i felt really depressed rt after too im 5 mo out and have only lost 33 pounds so i feel frusturated too have you ever tried pure protein ready made shakes ? they taste just like chocolate milk they are wonderful try 1

I am drinking the special K right now (not so much protein - but better than nothing!!!)
I am still not losing anything... It's frustrating... but there is nothing else I can do!!!
where do I get the protein shakes you are drinking???

Protein shakes that I have used: COSTCO: Premeire Shakes (think they are at Sam's also) 30 grm protein/ shake...Choc 0r vanilla
WalMart: Muscle Milk Light Strawberry (NOT my favorite, too much chemical taste for my liking)
GNC: OhYeah (Theses were good, but more pricey)

GNC: Some Walmarts : Protein Shots (for in the beginning, I mixed the shot with a crystal lite stick and water to make 32 fl oz) New Whey 42 grm protein and I sipped, sipped. sipped ALL day. I found grape tasted the best with a lemonade flavor stick and ICED.

I get them from the super market funny thing is I met someone who had gastric and was telling me she couldn't get up the gumption to go home and drink her protein cause it was so disguisting I had an extra can and gave her 1 of mine she came were I worked the next week thanked me and told me it sounds corny butt you saved me you can also go on pure protein.com try the shakes first if you like them move on to the powder let me know how it goes trader joes has them too

I thought it was just me! I had surgery 17 days ago and I'm finding it really hard. I miss food so much - much more than I thought I would. Also, I get hungry which I didn't think was supposed to happen. I lost a stone and a half within a week of the op but have now not lost anything for over a week, so that is frustrating. I'm not having enough fluids or protein, i know, in fact I can only manage about 3-4 cups of soup a day and I'm finding it so boring. I'm hoping I will start to be pleased I had the op but it's not happening at the moment.

Hi, I know I haven't had my surgery yet, but I've been thinking about this issue and trying to mentally prepare.

I figure that because at the moment I have such an 'instant gratification' relationship with food, it's going to really confuse me at first to have the opposite relationship. Particularly when I'm sore post-op and my tummy can only take fluids etc, it will be so weird that I can't use food to cheer me up.

However, I think rather than thinking of food as my 'cheer me up friend', it's probably more appropriate to think of it as my sleazy sex-friend. So, it's like having meaningless sex with someone - feels good at the time, but afterward when I'm on my own, I feel kinda cheap and tawdry for having given in, and it provides me with no longer term benefits. It's an addictive relationship and all the long-term effects are bad.

So, I'll not just be coping with the change in eating which will be a challenge in itself and create some difficult feelings, I'll then no longer have access to my habitual way of dealing with these difficult feelings.

Are there other sensory things you can do which feel good to improve your mood while your dealing with this loss and adjustment? Music, favourite movies (for me it's musicals all the way) warm baths, aromatherapy, a good book, mental stimulation (sudoku etc). I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need lots of nurturing after this!!
