    Default Regrets?.

Has anyone had any regrets with getting the sleeve vs. the RNY? I have a lot to loose. I am afraid I will not do well with the sleeve. I am revising from the band that I've had for 9 years and my Dr. Said if there is too much scar tissue she will not beable to do the RNY.

    THANKS

NOPE!!! It's been a year. Since I had this done 4 other people at work had it done by the same doctor. No one had any problems & are very happy. This will change your life. How much did you lose with the band. What is you history?
As you know the sleeve is do it & forget it. No up keep. All you got to do is exercise. You can walk & watch what you eat, which is easy because you are not hungry. I stay at 177 now. I told myself if I get to 180 I will go back to my routine again. It is easier to work with 3 pounds than 100. But I haven't had to do that. I eat what I want & still stay at 177. It is so nice.
When I read about this & came across a book about weight loss surgery. The sleeve then was not being covered by insurance. The doctor called the sleeve "The Cadillac" of weight loss surgery. Now how this will change your life? You can buy clothes at regular stores. You can have people not recognize you. You can take a plane trip. You can do more with your family & friends. PLUS with this goverments WAR on being OBESE you will not have people judge you & stare at you. I wish you the best. Keep us informed.

Wow, you have done really well. I am at 359, so you see I have a lot to loose. I started at 370 with band and lost about 50 lbs with it. I of course had issues with it slipping about 1 1/2 years after in 2005 and had it repaired. After that I have had nothing but problems with pain, reflux, inability to eat to proper
Foods as everything gets stuck! I can't wait to get it out. I am just worried that the sleeve. Isn't enough for me. My surgery is in Nov so I have some thinking to do.

Funmom, I had the Lap BAnD placed in 2003, I lost 40 lbs and then my dr, would not fill it until I lost another 10 lbs. I could not so I stopped going in for maintanence. I gained everything back plus a ton more. My starting weight at the beginning of my sleeve journey was 368 lbs. I had my BAnD removed in March and found out it had slipped and caused damage so I had to wait 4 months to get sleeved. While I waited I added extra protein to my diet and monitered my fat intake. I was 332 lbs at my pre-op appointment and then started the dreaded pre-surgery diet. I lost another 6 lbs on that, so the day of surgery I weighed 326. I am only 11 days post-surgery and I am down to 315. This is less than I was after I lost the weight with my BAnD. I am so happy with my sleeve I can't even imagine doing any thing else. RNY scares me just a little too much, messing with my intestines is not a good idea with me. I know the Sleeve is saving my life.

Wow, you have had yours along time too. I am very concerned about the scar tissue. I had my original in Nov 2003 and had it repaired in Feb of 2005. Did they plan on doing revision when you had band out and had to wait do to scar tissue? My dr. Said she will do it in all one surgery.

We didn't know there was slippage from the band, and so there was damage to the stomach that needed time to heal. That was why the 4 month wait. I was supposed to have the revision done at the same time as the band removal, but obviously the problem caused the delay! I also had a repair done in 2006.

Well my dr said depends on how much weight you have to lose depends on what surgery he suggests. He suggested the gastric bypass for people over 150 pounds weightloss because it's faster and it might not burn you out. I love my sleeve and he does plenty on people that had to lose what you do with the sleeve it just depends on what is right for you. So it is possible but it's not as fast weightloss as the other one. He also said if you like sweets he suggests the gastric bypass.

I def. don't regret the sleeve. Over the RYN, the sleeve is a better wls, it is a lot less risky then the bypass. it removes the ghelin, the hunger hormone, something that the bypass doesn't do, the bypass you will have to stop taking nsaids, you will have to be on suppliments the rest of your life, after 2 years the malapsorbtion stops so if you are eating the same amount you will gain weight. The new stomach pouch has much more ability to stretch, making weight gain more possible. The sleeve can be converted to viturally all other WLS, so if you find after 18 months you need something else you can get it converted. No regrets here, I'm 4 weeks post op. I think more people have buyers regret from the bypass then the sleeve.

I know my doctor's number one choice is the Sleeve regardless of the weight. He does all three along with a diet program. I have a friend who was 550 pounds & paid for the sleeve himself in Atlanta. He's 18 months out & is now ***. He's the one of the ones who advised me about the sleeve. It's funny how different Dr's are different.

Thats not a lot starting weight at all. You should land probally around the 210-*** mark. I started at 331 lost 72 in 4 months no regrets. You must exercise some do some dont. I say must because even if you dont do it for the weight loss do it for your mind set. Its amazing how much better you feel when you can run again. then the weight melts off you. I love it no regrets no issues.

The only regret I have is that I did not insist to my dr that I wanted the sleeve. He is still hellbend on the gastric band... I lost weight but picked it all up again plus a ton more. So, had to switch surgeons and arranged for a band to sleeve revision...

Regret??? that I ever had the band fitted...

So far I've been really happy with my choice in the sleeve. The restriction is great and my hunger is so much better than it was before surgery. I know it helps a lot in controlling food intake and simply just not having the "want" to eat so much. I think the RNY is a good surgery for some people. It really just depends. It's a much riskier surgery because of the side effects that can happen. Reactive hypoglycemia-vitamin deficiency-and of course some of the rarer side effects that are scary and have been linked to having RNY. I personally like that I have my pyloric valve. In RNY, you get a stoma instead. If you have done much reading about RNY a BIG problem is an enlarged stoma that allows people to slowly eat more and more and have weight regain. Anyway, I wish you all of the best no matter which surgery you have. We all want to be healthier and happier :-)
