Default Need advise regarding certain foods.

I'm 15 days post-op and had follow up appointment with nutritionist. I'm allowed to eat soft foods. It will still be a few more weeks until I'm allowed to have solids. My nutritionist stated I would never be able to eat corn tortillas, flour tortillas, breads, rice, pasta or french fries. I didn't know this before I had surgery. I know these are not healthy foods but I thought I might be able to eat these foods once in a while. I can't believe I will never be able to have my favorite food again - corn tortillas. So is this true for everyone?

No, I had my first cheese burger yesterday. Granted I only could eat lest than half of it. Those are foods that are a few months down the road. Just dont think about not having them or you will only want them more. All in due time Good LUck

You will be able to eat ALL of those foods eventually! I've eaten every one you have listed at least once its all about moderation when you are back to normal foods. Stick with your post-op instructions and get healed up! You will be able to experiment with those foods sooner than you think!

You should be able to eat all of those things eventually, just as long as you do so cautiously, and in small amounts.
My nutritionist says that starches are tricky because they become gummy when chewed and have a tendency to become stuck worse than other foods. Example, bread becomes stuck easily, but toast not so much. I think that soft tortillas may be a problem if you're not careful, but tortilla chips will work well if chewed thoroughly, etc. But eventually, you'll taste all your faves again.

I have eaten all the food you have mentioned. It is just they are not great food for weightloss. So it is best to avoid them as much as possible.

I've eaten all those foods and corn tortillas on a weekly basis. A small chicken breast meat taco on a small corn tortilla with salsa is under 200 calories. Don't know why she would say never other than she doesn't want you to eat them. They don't want you to go back to they way you use to eat, but come on, we will eat breads again just not as much or as often.

I'm a year out from my surgery and you will be able to eat all of those foods again, just in moderation. I avoid rice because it fills me up really quick. I usually split fries with my husband. I don't eat a lot of bread, I do "crave" it sometimes, I'll have it toasted or I'll eat a piece of garlic bread, then I'm fine for awhile. You'll do great. Don't worry about the foods you can't eat at this point. I wish I would not have started eating any of the "bad" foods again. Keep positive

I am almost 8 months out and I can eat just about anything, it's amazing things I thought I would want are not even on my list anymore. I used to love eggs, and meat, now I love fish, soup, cottage cheese, fruit. I snack on salted shelled sunflower seeds, a few crackers, bagel crisps. I do get meat and chicken but not like I used to. Good luck to you, it gets easier every day. Sam

Not true...tortillas, pasta and rice are not great for weight-loss but on occasion should be okay. I eat 1/3 of a slice of toasted rye bread every other morning with a soft poached egg. I found this Bavarian Rye bread in the health food store, 50 cals. a slice, no suger, no fat and low gluten. Think the only way I could eat it is toasted--it is dry--but it is bread

I am allowed them in moderation after 6 months. First focus on losing the weight, then gradually add those things in

It depends on the individual. These were no-no's until I reached goal. Now I continue to avoid bread, pasta and rice because I know they are triggers for me; they will ignite my appetite. Some folks can eat these in moderation, but once I start I can't stop. So, for me, avoidance is the best policy.
