Question Anyone Converted Sleeve to Bypass?

Fixing to have this done. I lost over 250 on the sleeve but need another 80-100 to lose and have plateaued the last 3 years. I was wondering if anyone else had this done and your success for starting your weightloss moving again?

Have you considered getting re-sleeved with a smaller bougie? By-pass is so much harder on your body.

Can u get re-sleeved? Dr. A uses a 32F bougie and to my knowledge that's as small as it goes. Just curious.

No haven't even heard of that. I need to lose this weight FAST due to the fact that I have a HUGE hernia in abdomen and the way the surgeon needs to fix it he suggests losing more weight so it won't come out again and the recovery will be a little easier because the way he has to fix it he has to pull muscles around etc. The FAST part comes in because I would like to have it done before Sept. 1st because my out of pocket is $5,000 and I will be almost to that with this surgery. Thanks for your input!

I know Dr. A does them because many surgeons use a larger bougie (I've seen 40 as a common size with the American surgeons). For you and me, we would be out-of-luck because we started off small to begin with. LOL

I know that Dr. A also does hernias at the same time as the sleeve. However, those ones usually take a few hours. It might be worth looking into, though. The by-pass is definitely more difficult to live with than the sleeve and I would certainly investigate have a second sleeve surgery with a smaller bougie if your initial sleeve was sized with a larger one.

Lol Yeah, I know I cannot fit much in my lil monster pouch!

I had the sleeve as well as a hiatal hernia repaired by Dr. A... SO worth it and I feel SO much better. I still had some acid issues for the first few weeks but I took Prilosec for 3 weeks and I haven't had any acid issues since. Off and on but not enough to take more Prilosec.

I wish u the best either way u decide.
I haven't heard of anyone being re-sleeved before so I don't know on that one. I know my sleeve cannot get any smaller since the smallest was already used. I can still barely eat 1/4 cup of food. Every now and then I can eat more depending on what it is. Just the last week or two I've finally been able to finish a whole yogurt and I'm 20 weeks post-op.

I have heard of people being resleeved. If they used a large bungee you could, why not ?

If your going with Insurance they may not do a resleeve as they think the first one didn't work so why try it again. This is what I was told with Kaiser. they will only do the Sleeve to Bypass. But you did loose a lot of weight with the sleeve so you might have a 50 50 Chance at fighting it and winning. If your doing the Mexico thing I wouldn't see why they wouldn't do it for you. Also with Kaiser they would fix the hernia the same time as the sleeve or bypass and it looks like the same thing goes on in mexico with Hernia's (my mom just got her hernia fixed and she said she feels soooo much better!)

Good Luck to you and let us know what they say.
