I am starving!! What is going on??

This Friday will be 3 weeks post-op. Last night I was able to eat 1/2 of a stuffed catfish filet and never felt full. Today, I have eaten everything I have been eating and my stomach is actually growling!! I ate chicken salad for lunch and it was the WHOLE can (2 servings). I just ate a sugar free pudding and am now moving on to a string cheese. Help!!!!

the growling is normal, its not really hunger growling, it more just noises that you will make for now on after you eat. Some days I feel I can eat and eat, but I try not to. I was sleeved on 12/27/10. Good Luck!

OMG!! I thought it was just me I feel like my stomach growls all the time. And I feel like I am always hungry, like a hollow empty feeling. Insatiable sometimes. My husband was looking at my incisions and my stomach "GROWLED" and he said dang that thing tried to eat my hand. lol....

It is not hunger you are experiencing. It is actually your stomach giving you signals to slow down and not stretch it. I am over 3 months out now. My stoamch does growl and it does let me know that it getting to the full mark. I let my stomach tell me what to do. I do experience the empty feeling about hr after eating. I do not let it make me think I need to eat. I usually eat a good snack mid afternoon. That is usually my only snack except once in a while I have a low cal ice cream after dinner. I eat about 800 cal a day. I try to make my goals in protein.

My best advice to learn to listen to your stomach and not think it is like the old stomach telling you it is hungry at least not all the time.

I would definately measure my food if I were you. You do not want to stretch out your new stomach! Just because you can eat that much doesn't mean you should. I use a little measuring glass. I fill it to 3 oz. I usually can't finish it, but if I do, I don't eat any more than that. I also have myself on schedule of three meals and two snacks a day. I am eating at 6, 9, 12, 3 and 6 oclock. ( I'm only on puree'd foods and beginning soft foods right now. I'm 18 days post op.) I sip water or hot, decaf tea in between meals and snacks. This way, I am not taking in too much food and I am keeping myself from getting hungry and over doing it.

Growing up when us kids use to complain to mom that we were hungry she would tell us to "eat salt and then you will be THIRSTY!!" Yes and people wonder why I am so sarcastic ... anyhow mom wasn't too far from the truth.
How's your water intake? Thirst sometimes is mistaken for hunger and on top of the noises vsg adds....

I am 8 days post op, so still in the early phase, but I find my stomach growls a lot. However, I have found that I am not hungry but very thirsty. Sometimes my lips get dry or my mouth feels tacky. That is the big sign for me to get some proper fluids inside me xxx

I am drinking a ton of water. I always have, even before surgery. I am always right at 800 calories for the day, 70ish protein and about 80 oz of water. So, according to that it is perfect. I just can't believe (except on 2-3 occasions) I never feel full. I thought I would feel like I just can't eat anymore and I never really do. At least I have a sugar free pudding and a string cheese for snack and that satisfies me. Before I would have had a handful of cookies, a sweet tea and a big bag of chips! I guess it's all in the perspective!

at 3 weeks out i could only eat about 1/3 of a pudding cup! and water was still very hard to get down!... fish was out of the question!! every hour after eating i feel this icky empty feeling in my tummy...almost like acid in my tummy eating away at the lining! but no reflux... i started taking protonix and feel much better... i too thought about food all the time...but trust me it gets easier!

I'm glad it's not just me'! I woke up from surgery starving and have been growling and bubbling ever since! It feels like hunger and probably is but I try to resist temptation with sweet or fatty foods. I have ryvitas and crispbreads for when I'm peckish, and I do get peckish about 2 hours after food. I am disappointed that I still think of food so much but glad I still get enjoyment out of cooking for my family which I probably wouldn't if I was never hungry.
