Default 75 hours post op (yes I am counting) - how long before you ate something?

I know, I know, you went through this, but now its my turn, so maybe I am whining...

I am REALLY craving something besides protein infused water and chicken broth.

Had VSG on 12/22, early morning. Was up and walking (more like pacing) the hospital (several different levels, no elevator when I could lose from IV for a bit), and all seemed to go well. Doc said it was very straightforward with exception of mild hernia repair he had to also take care of.

Nurses said I was one of fastest recovering patients they had seen (might have been just fluff, but they did say that).

Only hang up is the large incision where doc had to stitch muscles together, it still smarts, and I really do not want to take narcotics, so I am living with that.

I been getting 80 to 90 grams of protein, taking the vitamins, 100 to 120 oz of water, etc, etc, etc.

I am craving a scrambled egg with a bit of cheese and salsa.

I see some other sites talking about waiting 10 days, some say 3 days, my doc said a week. I am not missing a big Christmas feast, just scrambled egg two or three times a day.

How long did you wait? Did you cheat any? Results?

    Thanks.

I was on liquid (protein drinks!) for 2 weeks after surgery. The egg was day 14. It was yummy. Every week I added new foods after that, till anything at 6 weeks. I didn't cheat, mainly because I didn't want to hurt my healing tummy and end up back in the hospital. You can do it!

Only a week on pure liquids? You're lucky.

My doc said liquids only for two weeks. Then because I was doing so well (no nausea at all, was healing well, wasn't a whiny bitch) he advanced me to purees at 10 days. He also told me I could have some coffee. Needless to say, I hugged him.

Interestingly, my first real food was an egg scrambled with a little cottage cheese and cheddar. It rocked!

Hang in there. This phase will soon be over, and then you'll forget all about it.
