Default Help Please! No One Said there'd be pain like this!

I had my surgery this past Monday, the 21st. Surgery went without a glitch. The only negative thing that happened at the hospital was that it was hard getting me out of the anesthesia. So, I come home and I sleep until next afternoon, whereupon I take my meds like I'm supposed to, and use that breathing thingy to make sure I'm exercising my lungs (hurts like a "you know what!"). I get up to walk around a bit, but the pain is excruciating. By this time, I have only had sips of water (not as much as directed probably). Called my doctor's office Wednesday and they said for me stay on top of taking pain meds (which make me sleep), get my fluids in, shower/bathe and walk around. It is now Thursday evening and I don't feel all that much better. I was under the impression that I was going to be walking within a couple of days. At this rate, I feel it will be another week before I am not walking around like the hunchback of Notre Dame.

Hang in there- it will get better. And if it doesn't, go back to your doctor.

I'm sorry you are feeling so bad! I hope the pain gets better. I haven't had my procedure yet so I unfortunately can't offer any help. Hang in there, it will get better!

cloud1103 - Oh yeah it's majorly exciting, how man protein shakes, bullion and water can a person drink. And the getting up all night long to use the bathroom ugh! Other then that, I'm hanging in there. What is your diet? Are you worried at all about the pain? Some people have had comments about the pain being unbearable so I'm a bit worried.

You just had major surgery so there will be some pain. Are you using gas-ex strips 3-4 times a day? You could have a bunch of gas pain. Gotta get up and walk no matter how you feel. Stay strong-chin up

I would push myself to walk around the house every hour and sip water as much as possible. Hold a pillow on your tummy when you walk. I hope you feel better soon.

You know I had a thought terbear, when I had my gallbladder out, the gas that they fill you up with still hung in there for a few days after the surgery. It was miserable and I think, not having had this surgery yet I don't know what your experiencing but could it be the gas??? Have you tried heat or cold to help with the pain?

I had pain for a week, and really slept a lot. Use the gas x strips, and I used a heating pad on my tummy. When I was awake, I did some walking, and ate popsicles.

It will get better, like someone up there said, this is major surgery and you need to take care of yourself.

Keep us updated and best wishes!

    Terbear,
I am sorry you are having so much pain. Everyone has a different experience due to pain tolerance, your bodies ability to get rid of the gas. Stay on top of the pain meds...they are your best friend right now...plus the gas strips. It is okay to sleep alot in the beginning. You have had major surgery. Go easy on your self. Try to sip, sip, sip, rest, walk a few minutes and repeat. I used a heating pad to help with the pain. IT WiLL GET BETTER!!! Keep us posted

Passed personel goal weight of 135 in 9 months! Wow!

Awww, thanks everybody. You all are such a great support system. I took what my doc was saying as I would up walking around and doing stuff within 2-3 days. Maybe his idea of walking around and doing stuff is way different from mine. But you all are right, it is major surgery, and then maybe some of this pain is just good 'ol gas. I know it's trapped in there because it causes me pain when its moving around and I can hear it too. ha ha I'm making sure to use the lung exerciser-thingy, and drinking lots of water (which I love) and I actually downed a shake today! Yay!! Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who responded. I sure do appreciate it very much. )

p.s. Those gas strips sound awesome! Am definitely going to get me some of those!

I checked your profile to see what your start weight was, but not there thought it might be a factor. Interesting birth info though....hippy parents? This gas will pass and you will feel better every day, of course if you don't call the dr. Great success to you.

We all react differently. I never felt hardly any pain and had no trouble walking around. I was a little queasy though and a little uncomfortable. Another lady who had surgery with me was very sick. It is just a roll of the dice on how you will feel.

On a brighter note, you will probably be feeling better within a few days! Just keep using those gas-x strips like everyone says. It should help :-) I wish you all of the best and hope you feel better soon. The heating pad is a great idea too!
