HI Jess, Mine was way different (in OZ) as I had 4 weeks, yes folks I said FOUR weeks on Opitfast shakes and non-starch salad veg for one meal.
I think I must have looked too smug when the DR said 2 weeks cos he quickly changed it to 4. ( I am sure he added a little chuckle at the end, but could of imagined it hmm)
I stuck to it, and lost 13 kilos = 28.6lbs so I'm not complaining.

Hey Jess. I'm in Australia too and it's different. However the dietician wanted me to do 14 days on protein shakes but I don't drink milk and the thought of that stuff makes me want to puke. So instead, I start on Friday and it's basically 10 days of high protein, low carbs. So egg on toast for breakfast (no butter) chicken and salad for lunch, seafood and salad for dinner and fruit and nuts for snacks. I think it will be hard giving up the carbs etc but as Sandy said, we'll lose weight before we even get to the hospital !! And I plan to ring someone at night if I get the urge to put someone in my mouth that I shouldn't !! Good luck, Sheryl

I am presently on my pre-op diet since my surgery is on March 23. I am taking a protein shake for breakfast (30-40 grams of protein and no more than 150 calories). For lunch you have 4 oz of lean meat (chicken, fish or turkey) with 1 cup of raw or 1/2 cup of cooked vegetable, and either 2 slices of low calorie wheat bread (40 cal/slice) or 1 slice of regular whole wheat bread or 6 saltine crackers or 4 low fat wheat crackers. For dinner is 5 oz of lean meat (chicken, fish, turkey) and 2 cups of raw or 1 cup of cooked veggies. Your not allowed to snack but if you have to then they suggest 18 nuts (almonds, walnut or pecans), Greek yogurt, Protein bar (less than 200 calories) OR Sugar free pudding or jello. You can also substitute a lunch or dinner with a lean cuisine or healthy choice meal.

    Hope this helps!

thanks........ THAT is a long story!!!! on a board i belonged to when i had the lapband (actually, i am still a member and moderator... made so many WONDERFUL friends over there) anyway, someone from my childhood "found" me and all the pics I had posted with my weights, progression, etc. and shared with other childhood friends --- some of which I still keep in touch with. Needless to say, it turned into a whole ordeal and I learned my lesson. The internet is NOT private and anything you do not want on the front page of the local newspaper, you should not post. So, this time - I chose anonymity. but hey, thanks!!!!! I tried to find something cute! If anyone is desperate to see my pretty face, they can private message me & I'll share my FB page!

Hi, I had 2 and a half weeks on the pre-op diet and mine wasnt too bad:
breakfast - 30g of cereal with milk from my allocated 1/3pint of skimmed milk per day
lunch - 2 eggs, i piece of bread, unlimited green salad (no dressing)
dinner - 75g of lean meat or fish, unlimited green vegetables and 2tbsp of cooked pasta or 2tbsp of cooked rice or 30g potato
Snack - 2 pieces of fruit
I lost 21lb on the pre-op - it wasn't that hard, but watch out for headaches when you first start, they only last for a couple of days.
Its not a long time to have to do it for when you compare it to the results after surgery I promise.
    Good luck

My surgery is scheduled for March 24. I am on a 2 week liquid diet until then. Basically protein shakes and clear, sugar free liquids. Sounds like there are a lot of variables in the pre-op diet. In my case my surgeon wants me to lose belly fat before surgery and cleanse my liver. So here we go!

    Hi Sherri

Go for it !! I start mine today and I'm all shopped up with good food and all psyched up too. If it helps, I have organised for a few of my best friends to be my "phone buddies". My worst eating times are at night so if I think I'm going to stray, then I will phone one of them. Hope it works. Let us know how you go, Sheryl

Day 2 of all liquid pre op diet. I am chewing sugarfree gum when I have a craving! It seems to be helping. Good Luck!

Realise at certain points, even gum shouldn't be had. Usually in the hours leading up to the surgery and then post-op, it isn't such a good idea to chew gum, because it causes gastric juices to be secreted, which you don't want to do in the early days after surgery.

At least for me, post-op, because the hunger and other feelings changed, I found I haven't needed anything to satisfy my oral fixation.

Also, my nutritionist told me that after your stomach is healed, it's okay to chew gum, but we must never ever swallow it!
