Make sure you take your multivitamin WITH something on your stomach. Maybe space out your multivitamin one in the AM and one in the PM.

    Good2me,
I'm 10 days post op and my doctor isn't having me start my vitamins till 30 days post op. Though I am taking a Zyrtec chewable daily and not having any trouble with it. And I'm still on liquids and protein shake with water or broth till 30 days too. E may be over cautious but I really don't want to vomit. And so far, I've had very little nausea.

Take it slow and easy, your pouch is still very very new. It hates everything right now. Try warm broth, sipping, sipping, and take one vitamin at a time. Maybe space them out. Warm liquids are better tolerated by your new pouch. Knorr Broth or Better Than Broth are both good brands. Sip sip sip is the key to success.
I hope all turns out well.

Thanks Ladies! I solved the problem by eating my gel vitamins (which are tolerated) and mixing my chewables with a morning protein and fruit smoothie. Can't even taste them

    Thanks Skibabe,

I just so happened to have scheduled blood tests this morning for some life insurance so i have asked my doc to check my B12 levels too so I will take it from there..
I am hoping that I won't need to take any more coz I take enough stuff with my Diabetes and high blood pressure which I am kick starting my weight loss again coz I slacked off lately...

Your weight loss is incredible, you must be proud.. I want to get to 66kgs too so another 11kgs to go...

    Cheers

My surgery will be done here in Canada in a couple days. My nutritionalist told me that a good quality once-a-day multivitamin is all I should need post-op. For the month immediately following the surgery, she wants me on a chewable for 30 days, then to whatever multivitamin I choose after that. I always took them anyway, so no change in habit for me.

Right! My b12 levels are extremely high so I was taken off of the sublingual b12. I only take the b complex now...along with my other vitamins.

I was told to take a prenatal multivitamin, d drops, calcium citrate, b12 and iron. This seems to be sop (except iron) at my clinic. But I noticed when I go for blood work in a month that they are checking my iron, potassium, and d levels.

Here is an excerpt from book I'm reading on post WLS nutrition and vitamin deficiency if we don't eat a proper nutrient dense diet:

Nutritional deficiencies are a clear danger after all types of WLS. While the risk varies with the procedure, none is immune. The ultimate goal of WLS is to create a greater opportunity for health and longevity. As powerful tools for the promotion of weight loss, these procedures increase patients’ potential for better health. However, many patients and even physicians downplay the role of postoperative nutrition in long-term health and wellbeing. In the early months and years after a patient’s WLS, when he or she is basking in the benefits of a thinner more mobile body and reversed comorbid conditions, it may be hard for that patient to think about the greatly increased risk for neurological impairment and bone loss that can result from poor nutrition.

Despite the fact that nutritional deficiencies may sound like very small concerns when compared to hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, and the sheer stigma of morbid obesity, they are very real concerns for WLS patients.

Unmonitored deficiencies can leave patients vulnerable to both acute and chronic conditions with variable reversibility and, in some cases, permanent physical damage.
    Here is my vitamin regimen:

    Daily:
1 serving of chewable multivitamin with iron (3 chewables)
    1 Omega3 with Krill
    1 Lysine
    1 Maca (for perimenapause)
    1 Protease (probiotic with enzymes)

    3x week
    1 Calcium citrate
    1 dropper of VitD3

A week before and during my period:
    1 iron with vitamin C

    Once a month
    B12 complex

This along with a varied other antioxidants and enzymes, also ginseng.
