Why do you take milk thistle? What does it do?
My doctor told me to never take iron and calcium together because they won't absorb like that. I wish I could cut out some pills and do it that way, but he says no way. I take centrum chewablestand I take it twice a day. I also take calcium citrate, B complex and B12. I'm going to be adding hair, nails and skin vitamin as well. Can I swallow my vitamins? They're disgusting crushed.
You are absolutely right about the calcium. I have not been sleeved yet, but had parathyroid disease where my body had high calcium. I was told to take calcium only after surgery to remove the parathyroid tumors and then stop after a couple of months. I had a dexa scan last year and it was fine and I never supplement calcium.
I take the Bariatric Fusion Complete Multivitamin 3x daily, I happen to like the Orange Cream flavor. They are chewable and easy to get down (but not like the gummy ones, they start out as a solid and you just chew to break down).
What is really fascinating is that - here we go again - so many DIFFERENT perspectives by the Docs as to what post-op vitamins are needed. You go from my experience which is just the 3x daily of the Fusion ones, to folks on this thread who are taking B12; D; Iron; Biotin, etc.
It amazes me that there are so many different approaches by Docs for VSG pre and post op care. Some of them seem to be practicing by 'Law Suit Avoidance' and others are working with us to move to soft food stage quickly. But, it is clear that - no matter what the situation - post VSG there is a window of 12-18 months to maximize weight loss. That is the common thread for all of us.

Although I've not been sleeved, I was told to start taking multi vitamins; 2 Flintstones chewable, B-12, suglingual, and Calcium citrate, petite size pills for the rest of my life. We consume such small amounts of food that there's no way we could get all our recommended vitamins when we eat.
This is great advice! Unfortunately, I am one frustrated VSG'r today. I am currently 1 week post-op, which is the day I was supposed to start taking all my vitamins, and I threw them all up within 10 minutes of taking them. I am taking either chewable or gels. Anyone else have this problem and have any advice on how to make this stop? I will continue to try everyday but am not looking forward to another violent throw up situation. Thanks
