    Default Artificial Sweetners

Early 2010, I began -- AGAIN -- a serious attempt at losing weight. I didn't accomplish much, as typical. But by mid-Feb I was starting to have some odd symptoms, neurological in nature. I won't go into all the gory details, but we were frightened. I went for MRI's of the brain, etc. And did a lot of research on the Internet.

I finally decided to take the plunge and cut out all artificial sweetners COMPLETELY. Within 24 hours there was improvements, by the end of the first week the symptoms were completely gone.

Now, at two weeks post-op, I am having a resurrgence of the same symptoms...I've already begun to dial my artificial sweetner intake back, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what alternatives there are out there.

I seem to be able to tolerate SOME sweetener without any symptoms, but there's a threshold that I cross where it does awful things to my brain.

Nana, you don't tell us what artificial sweeteners cause you these symptoms.
I use splenda and stevia. I have heard that what causes problems to your health is aspartame, which is the component of equal and nutrasweet.
Splenda and Stevia do not have aspartame. Splenda comes from sucralose and Stevia comes from a plant.

Yes, the culprit for me is Aspartame. Sorry I didn't mention it. It seems to be the most commonly used one in prepared foods and mixes. If anyone manufactures pudding or gelatin with Splenda or Stevia, I haven't found it yet.
