Thumbs down Not feeling great - constant upset tummy

OK, so I hate to be a downer, particularly to all the newbies, but this weekend hasn't been great. I felt fine on liquids, but I started mushies/purees on Friday, and, wow, are they not settling well. I've tried hummus, refried beans, some Laughing Cow Cheese Light, soft scrambled and blended egg, and blended potato soup. All of them upset my stomach. I feel like I'm constantly bloated, slightly nauseous, gassy, and have just a general yucky/unsettled feeling ALL THE TIME. I also have these little burps, almost like air bubbles coming up constantly; sometimes when I lie down, it feels like soda water going up my throat. Some things have gone right through me, and I've had diarrhea.

I had no issues with my digestive system at all prior to surgery, no heartburn, nothing. Now, I'm constantly aware of the rumbling, the cramping, the gas, etc. I am not loving my sleeve at the moment but trying to remain optimistic.

I'm also concerned about how little I can eat. I manage maybe 300 to 400 calories in a day (including liquids); I'm having a hard time with protein because whey upsets my stomach. I seem to be lactose intolerant now too (never was before). When I had the scrambled egg, I could eat less than half, and I felt so incredibly, uncomfortably full. This morning I met some friends for breakfast and sipped tea while they ate; it was depressing.

Does it get better? Will my digestion eventually settle down? Will I eventually be able to eat like a normal person, because getting full on half an egg is not normal or healthy. What do I do in the meantime? Go back to liquids?

I am pre sleeve but I thinkk it will get better...it's been about three weeks since your surgery...do you always feel this way or once in awhile? I do believe this uncomfortable time will pass...good luck on your weight loss and feel better soon

Thanks, Lea. I HOPE it passes, and hope the old-timers say so too. I have felt like this for about three days, since starting mushies.

It will get better.. if you are feeling uncomfortable I would go back to liquids for a few days .. and then try that kind of food again in a few days. That's what my doctor told me.

Thanks, Cindy. I see that you're 9 months out; do you feel like your digestion has returned to normal? How much can you eat at a meal?

My doctor suggested trying one new thing each day so I would know what worked and what didn't. I am so sorry to hear this next stage isn't working for you. I was just going to start my six day countdown to mushy foods.
I would go back to protein for two days, and then try one food. Be strong, and keep us posted.

I found a TUMS like product at CVS that is antacid, and a gas releaver in one chewable. This may help.

It worries me because I'm NOT having these issues. It seems pretty common to have a tough transition to softies. Your surgery was a few days before mine. My body hasn't rejected anything yet. I've been careful but I've tried a lot of differnt things. Do you feel like you need to throw up? Or that the food is stuck at the opening to your stomach? Or like you mentioned, general discomfort?

The doctor told me it is common to become lactose intolerant at the beginning. I would cut out the dairy and try one food at a time.

I haven't touched dairy since I left the hospital. I didn't do well on the fat free milk the hospital gave me. I use soy milk, lactose milk to mix shake.

I am lucky. So far I have tried chicken, beef and lamb. No problem with them. I am a bit sensitive to tomato sauce.

I have felt like I need to throw up once; that was yesterday. Sometimes when I swallow my prevacid I feel like it sits at the top/opening of my stomach. But mostly it's general discomfort.

I am jealous that you've had no issues. Everything I've tried has upset my stomach.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. I wish I had some advice for you, but it seems like you have tried it, or someone has already covered it. I'll cross my fingers for you :/

    I'm sorry

My doctor had me stop taking my prilosec one week after surgery. Stomach pain, nausea, I think diarrhea were possible side effects. Do you think there's any connection?

I hope your tummy heals and you find stuff you can eat!

My doctor said a month on the Prilosec, but I know many people take it longer due to heartburn. You haven't had any heartburn even without it?

I have had vicious heartburn. Wasn't sure what to take for it.

I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. It was a sever hernia. I had a cough for 3 years that I thought was lung cancer (I know, crazy thought). When I finally got around to getting a chest xray, i was fine. Turns out it was the hernia and acid reflux. They fixed that during the surgery and I have been blessedly free of heartburn.

The one issue I have had is not having a BM. I have tried everything, including enema, and nothing happens. I know it can't be healthy to go 9 days without a BM. I guess our bodies have a tough transition, it just varies from person to person what it actually manifests itself as.
