    Default Liquid Protein

When I was on liquids (I am post surgery by about 2-1/2 weeks), my husband was feeding me this liquid protein (can't remember the name, starts with an "S"). It makes me gag. The protein shakes are even worse (Unjury) and make me nauseous with the smell. I'm on full foods right now, but it's tough getting enough protein. I'm not eating much differently than I was before surgery, just way smaller portions. How much protein should I be getting a day?

PS: I don't eat seafood at all and have OCD so I can not handle raw meat.

You should be getting around 60 grams of protein. I too have tired of supplemental protein, but I do like the vi-shape shakes. They have 20 grams of protein when made with skim milk. Low fat cottage cheese and Greek yogurt also have lots of protein. I did find a protein fruit drink that if I get it very cold I can get down. It's called protein blitz. Smoothie king makes a really tasty protein powder called Gladiator. It's got 45 grams of protien. I wish you luck!

Hi Sprinkles!! Love your name. Cute. On the protein: You need to be getting 60 to 80 ounces daily. OK. forget the raw meat. You don't even need it.
Do you like dairy? One half a cup of cottage cheese has 12 grams of protein. OIKOS greek yogurt (Which you can flavor with sugar free red raspberry preserves and/or splenda or another sugar free jelly or preserve) has 23 grams of protein per cup. (Get the PLAIN; the fruit flavored has too much sugar in it.) You are adding your own sugar free fruit w/ the preserves.

Also, go to the website Best Bariatric Surgery Diet Supplements, Bariatric Foods, Vitamins for Bariatric Eating.
Order some Wonderslim chocolate shakes (15 g protein each) I flavor them a bit with a tbsp. of Hunts sugar free chocolate pudding, and some ice cubes, and a packet of splenda. Blend w/ water in a blender. These are great. Put in freezer until ice forms on top, and its cold. Then stir and drink.
You can order any other flavors you like.

I also have the bariwise cappuccino (15g protein per serving) and the Proti grape drink (which tastes like kool-aid) it has 15 g protein per serving.

Bottom line is: With so little food fitting into your stomach at once, you are going to need to buy protein enhanced supplements. So, best try some of them now to see what you like.

Oh, and I forgot to mention hard boiled eggs. Smash two of them and mix w/ lite mayo or lite miracle whip and season for egg salad. This has 12 g protein.

You can get a TON of protein from dairy. For your breakfasts, try Kashi oatmeal. The truly vanilla flavor has 9g protein per serving. Add some splenda and cinnamon for a good taste.

The other thing I forgot to mention is that if you order some vanilla protein shake mix, those are easy to doctor up with either different flavors of extract such as run, almond, vanilla, bananna. Just a few drops per drink will change the entire flavor of the shake. You can also flavor with the sugar free jello pudding mix (dry mix) in the tiny boxes for a different flavor. Just play with it. You can invent some great flavors.

    Good Luck.
Reason: Should say 60 to 80 GRAMS of protein not ounces

I wonder how soon we can have watered down oatmeal. My doctor doesn't have it listed but I've seen it on a lot of lists.

The Protein powder from the Surgeons office is Nector and it in Light Silk Chocolate milk is DElish! I take EAS low carb drinks to work so I can get my protein in they taste great as well. I tried Several powered protein drink mixes and yes they were yuck, but I will stick to these. EAS you can get at Walmart and I have printed out coupons as well for them. So they are stacked up in the cabinet. Hope that helps a bit.

If you don't like the protein shakes, cottage cheese is a god-send! I eat it every day and generally don't have a problem getting in 60g of protein. You can get 2% and not have to deal with yukky no-fat.

I loathe all protein drinks also; the whey really upsets my stomach (did pre-op too). I found low-fat kefir at Whole Foods that has 12 grams of protein for 120 cals.

2% cottage cheese with pineapple is really good and helps if you don't want it so plain.
