    Question Stomach Size??

I have been reading many many posts on the board and of course I look at the date of surgery vs weight loss. I'm curious as I am yet to have my surgery.

So here's the question... Do you think that the doctors in MX are less conservative on reducing the stomach size than say America doctors or even in other countries like Ausie or the UK?

I have noticed that some posters that have said they can eat way more than they expected (soon after post surgery) have been to US doctors and not MX ones. Just an observation.

I am booked for surgery in MX it is my understanding that about 85% is removed but have heard lower numbers like only 70% to 80%.

I'm quite happy with the smallest stomach my body can handle

    Any thoughts welcomed!
    Michelle

WOW sorry to hear about that! I hope it gets better for you soon. As I said, it was just an observation on some posts so I was curious.

    Thanks for responding.

I think mine may be a bit larger than some. I am not having any trouble eating a 6 oz chobani in an hour. The mush I'm eating now is about 1/2 cup. Semi solids don't move through as fast. I'm really, really ok with that. I only want this as a tool to remind me and it's going to do that just fine. I think it must be really hard to get it just the right size, if you watch the youtube videos of the procedure it's amazing they do it at all. It's possible my doc aimed larger because I told everyone in the team I was freaking out about not being able to take a decent drink of liquids later. I was told that the sleeve can vary from 2 oz with a 32 bougie to larger dependent on the size they use. I know my doc used a 38 because of my preference and a sliding hiatal hernia I have. I have tried drinking warm tea from empty to see where it feels full and I seem to be at about 4 oz.

CFIDS =Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) Also dx with post-bariatric reactive hypoglycemia; and chronic gastritis (both sleeve complications). Permanently disabled.
Start weight 335, down to 218, up during gastritis. Have accepted there is no way to lose it with my hypoglycemia. Current weight 260. Currently doing 10 day sleeve reset and determined to get back down to my post surgical weight or close to it.

    Hi Michelle-

I had the sleeve in the States, but according to my doc, there are only 2 sizes of tubes they use-a 33 and a 32-In other words your new tummy will most likely be 3oz when healed-can it be re-stretched? Uh, yes, but once you have the surgery you WILL know when you are full- and you will only try to overeat a couple of times because of the PAIN!! So don't worry-you are gonna be just fine-I am almost a year out and I may slip up and eat a few too many carbs one day, but I can always get back on track-You will know what I mean after you have your surgery!! Good luck and let me hear from you!!

My friend and I had the same surgery on the same day with the same surgeon, and she is barely able to eat a few bites. I can eat considerably more than her, although I think I'm still eating less than a cup. I don't think there's necessarily any correlation between doctors in geographic areas. I suspect it's a matter of how people heal and just normal fluctuations. YMMV, of course.

I have read that we all have slight differences in length etc so the actual end size will vary somewhat. I think pretty much all the docs use between a 32 and 40 these days. My doctor uses a 38, and is very much a surgeon's judgement call as to the reasons for one size versus another.

So after doing more research on this subject, I've come to know that there are all these different bougie sizes ranging from 32 to 60, the larger ones being used mostly for men and for 2 part surgeries.

The average seems to be 32 or 34 with some doctors stitching over staples etc. The difference in sizes seems to be almost minute, like a fraction of a millimeter. A lot seems to be on the anatomy of the person and the length of the stomach. In this case, everyone is different.

Thanks everyone for their input, I have learned more about my upcoming surgery and also more questions for the doc

    Michelle

PS: Only 16 more days! Woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!
