i always slept on my sides now it seems i prefer my back and yes i hated my back before.. its eird how some things change just over night lol.. good luck with your surgery. and after a few months yoour tummy will probley be fine.
My doc didn't say anything about it but are you going to have a drain? that might be why he said that, but if not I would say maybe its because of the incisions in your abdomen maybe there is an issue with the incisions getting irritated if you sleep on your stomach. For me I started sleeping on my stomach about a month after surgery and for me it felt better. Ask your doc why he says that and how long they expect you to sleep that way. Good luck!
Hi my name is Anissa ad I am a former tummy/side sleeper....hahaha However, now that I have shed 65 pounds I can easily sleep on my back because my "fatty neck" is no longer crushing my esophagus while I sleep...aka I no longer snore and wake myself up!! It's amazing! :) I rarely sleep on my stomach/side anymore. In fact when I turn in the middle of the night...I flip myself right back to my back!
I slept on my stomach from the 4th or 5th day after surgery... My dr never said it was a no no and that was the only thing that made my tummy feel better ;)
I couldnt sleep on my tummy at first, I think after 3-4 days I was back to sleeping on my tummy.
My doc never said anything about it, once I got my drain out, day 8, I was back on my tummy
I never had a drain and when i went in for my week check up my doc said my incisions looked good and they were healing nicely and its been a week since then and they look even better i dont have any pain when lay down on my tummy ive just rolled over a couple times and then went back to my side but im the most comfy when im on my tummy
Because I had an internal stitch on the largest incision it simply wasn't possible for me to manoeuvre into sleeping on my stomach without pain for the first couple of weeks. So I slept on my back but in a semi-reclined position in hospital with the electric bed, and then propped myself on lots of pillows at home. The pain guided me as to when sleeping on my side or my stomch was comfortable, and I was back to stomach sleeping by about week 3.
I am 8 days post op and I have been able to sleep on my right side a bit. I just got my drain out so it is a lot easier. I had an issue last night though, from sleeping on my right side. I woke up with a severe cramping that made me jump out of bed. Has anyone else experienced this problem? It did go away in a short amount of time but I thought I really did something bad. Also, do any of you have severe dry mouth when you are sleeping on your back?
